18 inch subs that don't take a lot of cubic feet to sound good?

Depends what sort of sound you want. IF you want LOTs of impact and not worried about the roll off, sure stick 2 BL 18s in 11-12 cubes, they will work just fine. If you want smooth sound with little more in the way of a shallow low end roll off, 2 15s.

Theres alot of confusion as to certain manufactuers claiming drivers to work in certain sized enclosures. Bottom line. Comes down to motor strength. That doesn't mean one brand has more or less, every 'motor' peaks different, some just peak others have peaks in different areas depending upon the way they are FEA'd.

Fi DO work in small enclosures, extremely well!

You could use DC subs. Level 3's or level 4's would be a good replacement for the BL's. They would be fine in 5-6 cubes net per sub.

..elaborate how it would be a good replacement...considering a level 4 is closer to an SSD in mechanical capacity..not so sure that claim is accurate..

Edit: To the OP, don't stick a pair of 18s in a trunk. You are wasting your time.
