what do you guys think about the obsidian 18 so far, looks pretty beefy for a 600 rms sub

JEEP BUILD PROJECT ANTIBLING. 2000 jeep Cherokee. HEADUNIT Alpine Cda-9886 SUBSTAGE 1 acendent 18" audio mayhem motor with a TI basket and tantric parts 1 prototype DAT hellfire 1000.1 HIGHS Stock ELECTRICAL db link 0 gauge Knuconceptz Kolossus 4 gauge 1 xs power d3400 under hood Big 3 upgrade old fourwheeler build

The only way to delete your SMD account is for you crawl to steve meades door step on your knees and pleade for his forgiveness and acceptance to be released...He will either grant your wishes.....or choke you with a large piece of 0 gauge and electrocute you by hooking up a solid gold DC 12k at 0.000001 ohm and 10000 volts to your eye sockets and blow your head apart

You guys act like you have never clogged a toilet and ran around the bathroom frantically hoping it don't overflow.

It is beefy for a 600w sub, that's been well established with the oa12 and the oa15 which both share the same motor that the oa18 will have

An 18 with a 2.5" VC. isn't that why Jacob didn't make an SA-18?

Here's a little sneak peak at how the 18" will look. These pictures are a mock up and will not be exactly how the driver will look (the spacer will be different and the cone/surround will be different), but it is very very close. Have fun guys...

The size of the voice coil has nothing to do with why Sundown Audio does not have an 18" in their SA series. We tooled up our own cone, surround, and spacer just for this particular driver.

Here is what we posted on CSCO:

The prototype cone/surround and spacer are finished! Here are a few pics to wet your whistle while we get the prototypes built for testing. :)

Up close and personal with our spacer:

And a mock up of what the finished drivers will look like (we have to modify the motors to fit the basket and spacer for these prototypes).

I'm really considering getting one if they come out at the 200 + shipping price point. id like to see how the testing goes on them.

any idea about what the rms limit on this sub would be since you say the rms is conservatively rated at 600 watts

I have always said, and will continue to, that the drivers are rated at and warrantied for 600 watts RMS. That's all you will get out of me. :)

And I am also anxious to get this puppy built and tested! :D

If you know how to set your gains, I have OA's on 1k a piece but I'm also careful with them.

But like nick said, they are a 600w driver. Basically you are on your own if you decide to put more haha
