Road to 150+ with single 15.

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm new to this site, but not the car audio world. I started competing last year in meca and enjoyed it a lot. So this year, it's my goal to win street 2 world finals this year. Not sure if I can do it, but hopefully I can. I'm looking to gain more tips but also give tips with my thread.

Last year I started out with my Hdc3 15 on a AQ 2200d, hit a 145.2 my first comp. Before the next comp, I switched my kinetik 1400 and 2400 batteries to xs power 5100 and 3100. Layed two layers of deadener on my roof and a ton on the floor, side, and inside panels. Next comp, best I could get was 143.3:(

This year, i've been building burp boxes to try out. I picked up a massive dmx 15 quad coil to play with too. First I built a 3.5 net box, with 4 4" pvc ports to the driver side, best score was 145.8 wired down to .25 ohms too. Then I took off the ports and used an 8" port instead. Best score, 145.8 again. Both of them topped out @55 hz.Even when I did the "sealed box" test, the peak was 39 but 55 was .2 down from 39 hz.

The massive dmx 15 came in a little prefab box, I decided to test it out, got a 145.9 with it. So I knew I was onto something with this box. I sanded the port, rounded everything, First comp this year, 146.7. Bought a 3k amp since that's my limit, added toolmaker triple inputs. But next comp, only hit a 145.8 I looked at the box later, the baffle was completely cracked. I fixed it up but haven't tested it since.

I have taken my hdc3 d2 back out to play with and test with. Best I could get out of it from the prefab box was a 143.5. I then went from sub and port back to both up and gained .8 doing that. Still peaking at 55 hz.

I recently built a new box. 3 cubes net with 120 sq in of port. With my hdc3, peaking at 49 with the box, I got a 144.7. I've been cutting down the port, trying to raise my tuning, so far i've gotten a 145 even out of it. Just with door open, metering at the headrest. With other interior things moved, I can raise it up higher. Almost to the 145.8 mark. I'm really itching to throw my massive in there and see what it does.

List of equipment used.

Pioneer hu. Big 3 in 1/0. 4 runs of 1/0 to the back( 2 pos, 2 neg) 330 amp singer alt. DD m3a with triple inputs. XS 5100 and 3100. All in a 2 door blazer!

Sorry for the novle. Couldn't post links to other sites so I had to give the whole story in one post, lol.

HDC3's like big boxes. Try something like 4.5 cubes net.

MECA doesn't like high tuned boxes.

Something you could consider a "daily" box tends to do better than a fart box in MECA.

I've been told that but it just hasn't worked for me for some reason. Maybe I need to tune down to 35;)

HDC3's like big boxes. Try something like 4.5 cubes net.

My daily box is almost that big, tuned to 40 with 90 sq in of port. For daily, they really do like big boxes. But i've test mine in almost all types of enclosures, they really shine in 2.75 net boxes from my tests.

Instead of cutting your port, extend it.

Remember, you want lower tuning for MECA. Try something around 35Hz.

what vehicle is this in?

Sorry, 2 door blazer. Thought I said that, sorry.

Well I can't with this box. Can only trim it. So it doesn't hurt my feelings if it doesn't work, lol.
