My Probe Build! Time for something new. Like paint, for example.

Recommended Posts

So this is all about my plan for this summer. It's gonna be a long time in the making, but I figured it would be fun to keep track of and get opinions and whatnot, so here goes. This is going to be first a car overhaul, everything from the frame to the engine to the electrical and exterior and interior. There s going to be mmore than one car involoved! Obviously I can't use this frame, but I can use a lot off of it..... I'm getting two moe cars to make one final "Frankenprobe if you will." Second is going to be the audio aspect, which for now shall just be a teaser. (Hint look at the tags) Also, I'm trying ot figure out this whole posting multiple pics and all, so this might be choppy before I can refine it.

Some background info: I'm a competant mechanic, and I know my way around electronics. I repair amps for fun, and buy and sell constantly on cragislist and Ebay. So everything going into this car is probably secondhand, and probably repaired. College + Just lost job = I'm pooooooor! So bear with me!

The car in my sig, yeah this is it about nine months ago thanks to someone without blinkers on their trailer. (I may also have been speeding a tad)

And well anyhow, it's pretty messed up. Nearly rolled it... Frame is bent to snot.

that sucks man, some people really need to learn how to drive on the road :/ I have a Zx2, which aparently was supposed to replace the probe? bad choice on Ford for sure. Sounds like a budget build to me, I'm tuned in and also a broke college student

Why would you spend all that money when you could probably buy a decent shape probe of that year for pretty cheap, replacing airbags alone will cost an arm and a leg. If you can do it cheap great, but it looks like a fortune in parts just to get back to square one.

So here is the progress I made today: Mostly just prep for pulling the motor, which is what I want out of this car.

Fenders and bumper come off for ease of acess, and radiotors and anything else in front.

1024.jpg?md=1337053369000

Doors come off because I feel like doing something easy

1024.jpg?md=1337053450000

Halfshafts coming out to free the transmission for removal. Hopefully I can pull it with the engine together....

1024.jpg?md=1337053469000

Man Hub Nuts are always impossible! I hate doing these.....

1024.jpg?md=1337053485000

Also the exhaust came out, and all of the crossmembers cradling the engine and transmission... Exhaust Manifold is removed, and all that is left is motor mounts. and all the connections plus the fuel lines. Well on track to removing the engine tomorrow.....

And then..... Time to get get the new frame!

I totally agree man! Sorry for not being clear, I'm just salvaging parts off this one for my new car, which I'm picking up sometime this week. Also getting another one after that to host some of these parts and possibly sell. It's all about money.

Today started kind of late... Worked for about 8 hours even so. Much done!

Finished removing all of the exhaust in the way. Won't need it anymore so I wasn't friendly. have some headers! Oilpan is dented in of course..... Effing ditch...

1024.jpg?md=1337132862000

After disconnecting everything and draining the necessary fluids i found some nice spots to grab it.

1024.jpg?md=1337132872000

Took the weight off and outshewent!

1024.jpg?md=1337132880000

Business end as far as us audio guys are concerned, DC Power makes a nice alternator for these..... Got a new flywheel and an upgraded clutch for the tther end.

1024.jpg?md=1337132888000

And this is how she's gonna roll off to the scrapper. I'm gonna miss it, my first ever car. Bought it broken and hauled it home on the same trailer i'm gonna use to haul it to the junkyard.

1024.jpg?md=1337132896000

Tomorrow I've got stuff going on, but hopefully I'll be able to go get my two other probes....

If not it'll happen thursday for sure.

And after a dealy due to weekend duties, I'm back at it. I actually picked up my new cars thurday night, but as I said i've been very busy.

Here she is, beautiful eh?

1024.jpg?md=1337561039000

Okay a tad shy from glorious, but with some paint and a few exterior panel swaps she'll be a head turner.

Here's the interior, needs a little work:

1024.jpg?md=1337561064000

I found this to be just sad... The previous owner had a nice alpine system in it buuuut... 4 gauge power with 8 gauge ground..... Anyhow.

1024.jpg?md=1337561071000

I don't waste time sooo... I've got an engine to swap right?

1024.jpg?md=1337561048000

1024.jpg?md=1337561056000

NOPE!!!!! After getting to listen to it for an extended period of time, I've determined it does not have a knock. BEST news ever.

The "rattle" is coming from the timing belt area, which is a peice of cake for me, havng odne it multiple times. So that's where I am currently, taking the covers off to take a better look.

Also though I might as well throw in a better teaser picture of the audio.... The incredibly deadly 6.5" woofer. Just kidding i'll post some pics of the audio later tonight.
