SMZ2's Xterror. 1st Hairtrick!

Recommended Posts

Well I've figured its about time I did a build log so I got proof for what I talk about. To start off I have a few people I would like to thank for help with this build. Some helped with finding an amp, sub motor, wires, and one even helped with it.

  • 252chevyboyz a fellow local SMD member and he has become a good friend of mine all the work that you will see in my truck we did I could do this without help thanks so much man for what you do!
  • str8rippin for a great deal on the BC2000 this man did a great job packaging the amp and this thing was mint guys I wish he had two BC2000 because I would buy from him again!
  • mbdblue I bought my IXOS 1/0 gauge amp kit from him was as he had described, great packaging, and once again an awesome deal. Thanks man.
  • fritosaregood for the sweet deal on the fi bl motor and the great packaging for it too the motor took awhile to get out he packaged it so good.

Thank you all you guys for the help. Now on to the build.

First things first if I was going to be putting a serious system in the truck I need tint dark dark tint so I did 5% on my back doors and back windows, I also did a 5% window kit on my hatch this is all legal in my state. My other exterior mods include blacked out bumpers, plastics, and rims I did all the work myself but when I go to bedline the sub box I will be bedlining my bumpers and plastics and maybe even my rims.

Then I got a surprise in the mail!

Well in case you didn't figure it out its a Fi Bl motor its an older 2008 model but I had big plans for it! So a few weeks later after getting it I sent it to fixmyspeaker.com or better know as PSI.

Just a little dusty haha.

IMG_20120616_134141.jpgIMG_20120616_134128.jpg

This is a powerful amp I had it hooked up to my old 10 and it was ripping apart my first box I built mind you is wasn't a good one but it messed it up bad. That box is in the trash now but there is a destruction video on youtube. Oh I almost forgot what is an amp without power wire so naturally I ordered some power wire and got a great deal.

This was the first time I ever had to drill into the firewall and boy was it a mess I used a universal grommet, a dremel, and silicone once I run some more 0 gauge for an extra battery I will be clean the hole up and putting in a 1/0 grommet which I was informed they made after the fact haha. I'll post some pictures of the that firewall later haha.

So one day at work I got a text from ups saying I had a package delivered to my house so all day I was ready to get home because I knew what it was. I got home and there was a huge cardboard box on the table so I grabbed a knife and began to open it and guess what I found inside....

IMG_20120627_180750.jpgIMG_20120627_180800.jpgIMG_20120627_180809.jpgIMG_20120627_180815.jpg

So it was time to build a box a very big box so 252chevyboyz and I met up at his house and started building and this what we got.

Not to bad for some rookie box builders both our second build we did everything ourselves even the cuts. Lowes rip saw isn't worth a rip as I found out from my first box haha.

Then a few days later I went ahead and got ready for my next big upgrade. You see when I first got into audio and had a small amp a 350watt kenwood 2 channel and a small polk 10 in a sealed box well I could only turn it up so loud because of broken mids and highs so when I installed that after I unplug the stock tweeters and for mids I got something that I thought was "better than stock" I did the same thing with the rear 6X9 but don't get me wrong for having no amp they are kinda loud. Because of all this though I decided I need new mids and highs so I checked out my local shop the guys there are pretty cool and I hangout there a lot giving demos and all so even though they were a little pricier than online I wanted to help out my local shop. The mids and highs sound amazing and my first amp came in handy again yup the kenwood 2 channel here is what I got.IMG_20120706_164626.jpgIMG_20120706_164611.jpgIMG_20120706_164605.jpg

252chevyboyz(Rick) helped me out again with installing these and we fiberglassed and sanded my box in two days.

I will be sanding the inside down more and possible more resin if needed. I will also fiberglass the outside and be belining it. Well after we finished sanding the box or should I say ran out of sand paper haha. We began on running the wires under my carpet which was a pain! Then of course of all things it rains and not a little shower the sky opened up! We had to run the wires with the doors closed it was atleast 100 outside too we were roasting I would open the door and run it under the carpet really quick and get back in and crimp the wires(This ought to go in the you know your a basshead when section haha). Well anyway we finished the wiring was messy but it was done I'll probably get some more pictures and clean it up soon.

This was after it died down some can't tell but it was pouring!

IMG_20120709_214850.jpg

That's all the pictures I have for now. I am getting a new headunit soon also and I will post pictures of that when I get it and post some mids and highs pictures too. Thanks for tuning in guys. There is much more to come for this Xterra!

I'm currently looking for some alternator options for my xterra I've contacted mechman, Mike Singer, Dc Power, and Excessive amperage but Dc power is the only one that will go up to 270 amps. So if anyone can chime in with help or ideas I appreciate it. The headunit I'm getting is Pioneer avh 3200dvd and I will be posting pictures as soon as I get it and when its installed. Also if anyone has any tips on a good way to organize the wire mess just let me know I was thinking zip ties or something similar.
