412 CVX
First one has been done for a while, just thought i'd share it now. A 6th order build for some E-8's i got for cheap on an MB quart onyx 1k. this is what i got done the first night. got the outer shell built and the baffles dry fitted. everything done the first night was entirely glue and clamps because i couldn't find my screws. got the port on the next day. later that day, got the baffles assembled and attached with the ports on. I didn't think to seal the rear chamber ports (cut with a jigsaw) and i regret it. there's some scuffing on the low notes. i assume the ports are leaking. then there was about a week gap while i waited on some terminals and speaker wire from Parts Express (later to realize that i had a 100 foot spool of speaker wire later) got ready to wire the subs up. cut the wires shorter than i would've liked. I absolutely HATE this speaker wire. couldn't split the wire with anything less than a pocket knife, and even then if you were off even slightly, you'd cut into one of the jackets, which would split all the way down. Ended up just stripping both ends at the same time and cutting off one side of the wire. also learned that when you're using T nuts, drill your holes straight, try your best not to go in at an angle. finally got everything in the car and wired up. taped off the ends of the wire so they wouldn't short out if they touched the back of my trunk. this thing sounds better than any box i've ever had. competes with my old 12's on 500 watts in loudness. my only regret is not getting the SA's. i've bottomed the subs out a couple times. but if i could crank it, this thing would probably outdo any setup i've had previously. here's the sketchup model and cutsheet for this box. i've modified it to fit the SA series (mounting depth issue) ports are 12" long and 4" of that is external. http://sketchup.goog...52cf99dffdfc0c9 Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. 412 CVX
Next up is a kerfed box for a pair of sundown E 15's for my room. this turned out to be more of a learning experience than anything, but still sounds incredible. parents even complimented it getting the first two pieces together was one of the hardest parts due to the sheer size of this one more progress learned a lot from doing these kerfs the first time around, one of the clamps fell off, and the kerf bent way out of shape, so in an attempt to put it back together, i snapped it. i was soooo pissed. had to make another one the next day. ended up glassing the inside and outside of both kerfs. was it necessary? probably not. but it was good practice. i was told later on to use mat for strength instead of cloth. my friend convinced me to remove the clamps before the glue fully dried. he's impatient as all fuck. as a result, the kerfs flared out a little as you can see in the picture. I wasn't very happy with him. but it's mostly assembled. the wood was warped, so theres about an 8th inch overhang putting the last piece on. again, i was very pissed. I decided i'd try to bondo the kerfs and make it look nice, but got tired of hand sanding after a while. Ended up just throwing on a coat of spray paint i had lying around and clean it up when it's time to sell. still love the way this sounds. only 250 watts and my next door neighbor can hear me. sketchup w/ cutsheet http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=c8173869f1cc739ab52cf99dffdfc0c9&ct=mdsa Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. 412 CVX
This box was for my friend TJ. who had bought one of my old ported boxes for my JL's a week prior to this build (link in sig) and he wanted me to build this 4 days before he moved off to school. we made countless trips to lowes and ultimately spend more money on this than he should've. he's tuned mid 50's with a pair of 6" pvc ports. We could only find the angled PVC so we decided to just go with that. ^there's the opening to take the subs out if ever needed. there's a piece that bolts down on top of that to seal it. everything in and wired up. It's slightly louder than the ported box on the high notes, low notes are quieter. but the subs don't get nearly as warm. i guess that's just the nature of 4th orders. could've tuned lower, but didn't want to bring the cutoff down very low knowing his music tastes. he's got a BRZ 1700 wired to 2 ohms. so he's giving them about 1200 watts. It sounds nice and clear though. sketchup model/cutsheet http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=94d6c0d63cddfafdb52cf99dffdfc0c9&ct=mdsa Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. 412 CVX
What does it sound like on different music? Like metal, rap etc? It sound amazing on everything i have (mostly rap, some R& It balances nicely with my setup. have my mids crossed over at 80 hz, front chamber tuning is 60 hz. rarely overpowers the mids, but i usually just turn the sub output down to my liking. 412 CVX
Awesome. How do you like the E series subs? both are pretty beefy little subs. the 8's i've bottomed out a few times, but they've hardly ever gotten stinky. and i know my amp is clipping some. i'm basically giving them double rated power though lol the 15's are just beast. they're begging for more power. barely moving, but shaking the whole house. 412 CVX
Lastly, my buddy carlos decided to give up on his 4th order. I don't blame him, he kept having problem after problem. he built the first one out of particleboard and it flexed more than the subs did. the second one was with MDF and it didn't flex as bad, but he made it in 3 parts so he could fit it in the trunk, and overall just overcomplicated it. He wouldn't listen to the suggestions i gave him, and kept trying temporary patches, which didn't work well. anyways onto the build. this was a quick one. we got the wood, cut it, assembled, took his old system out, and slipped the new one in after a total 4 hours. simple ported box tuned to 35 @ 4 cubes for the kicker CVX's i sold him. didn't need silicone on this one, cuts were pretty accurate. getting ready to do the sub cutouts. aaand finished Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs.
