Lonnie West
Ok. I put a 250 amp alternator on my dodge ram. My voltage regulator is pcm controlled so I bought a transpo blue box adj. regulator to bypass it. I didn't buy the one with the remote wire, I bought the one that is stator driven. so on the blue box I ran the one that says stator to a stator hookup on my alt. I hooked the field up to one of the two field post. the positive on the box has a ign. power wire ran to it. and neg. is grounded to alt. case. my question is, my alt. is not kicking out any amps now. I have one field post left that I didn't hook anything up to. What do I do with the other field post? do I ground it or run a power wire to it? I do believe that is why my alternator is not putting out any power. Im trying to post pics, but it isn't letting me on here. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs. SnowDrifter
I don't want to lead you in any sort of direction. So don't do what I'm about to say. I'm just brain dumping Iirc you will have 2 field posts. One that is energized by the regulator, and one that is grounded. Think of it like the positive on one end of a battery and the negative on the other. Current goes out one side and back in the other. Perhaps it's as simple as grounding one end? I'll say again: I'm brainstorming, not telling you want to do. Now what I would like you to do it go out with a multimeter and confirm that the regulator is getting power and that your relay is functioning properly. Dmm set to DC volts. Positive probe to positive post on the reg, negative probe to negative post. Should read nothing with the car off and equal to your battery voltage with the car on. You did wire in a relay right? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Lonnie West
yep the regulator is getting power. I didn't use a relay. I ran a wire from the wiper relay out of the under hood fuse box. It comes on when I turn the key on. 12.5v I already checked it with a dmm. On some sites it says to ground the other field post. on others it says to us a ign. power source 12+. That's a major difference. I don't want to burn anything up. Im sure when I hook up what is suppose to go to the other field post, the alt. will start putting out voltage. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs. Lonnie West
Here we go. hopefully this will come out. This is the box I have. it has four post on it. stator: I have running to the stator post inside the alt. case. field: I have running to one of the field post. power: I have a ign. switched power wire running to it. Neg: I have it grounded to my alt. case bracked. which I also have a 1gauge run of ground wire to the same mount on the alt. and here is a pic. of the back of my alternator. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs. Lonnie West
I got it going. I had to wait to the company opened this morning. Im in the midwest and their on the west coast. Anyways they said the other field post gets a ground wire to it. As soon as I did that, it fired right up. you can hear the alt. whining alittle now at idle. I have the reg. set at 14.7-15.1 at idle. It's jumping around alittle at idle. My amps are seeing a constant 14.4v at idle. That was with it just idling for a couple of min. So Im happy, im sure the dd amps are happier now seeing that 1 volt increase. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs.
