Got metered for the first time today. Input?

UPDATE PAGE2, POST2

Finally found a cool audio place where I can stand the people. Not many places to choose from where I live.

Anyway after some financial issues and an amp getting wet and blown. 2 year old got my keys and popped my trunk, started up the car in the morning and didnt realize it until there was no B00M! I was like WTF IS MY TRUNK DOING OPEN!!! Good thing I live in the country and everything else was still there.

So I messed around with stuff and found an old spare DEI Directed D1200 (600w RMS) Hooked it up and took off.

So I have 2 12" Treo TE (500rms underrated) Prefab Sub Zero box ported tuned 34hz .66cu per sub (way too small)

Pioneer x8500BT HU

Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates in the front doors

Stock 6x9 in the back

Big 3 in 2\0 welding cable

standard battery under the hood

6ga power and ground

stock alt

So we did a sweep on the termlab to find my peak freq. (39hz)

Ran it through a couple tests and managed a 136.9 sealed on the dash

No tweaking or tuning this was a freebie 15 min on the LAB to get a bass-line ;)

So having never competed or been metered, is that pretty good for 600w? Oh yeah and subs\port firing into cab with 1\2 backseat down.

Any input would be great although I feel like I should have been closer to 140!

A better box and that 40 will be possible.

its not bad for low power but I'm sure the right box would do much better. 39hz is awfully low of a peak. Horrible freq range with that box from the giving info.

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Do you think with a box built to spec and double the power could get me a 145?

What do you think I should tune the box to if I plan to do some small competitions as well as listen to my music (rock, rap, dubstep style elctronic)

Is it true that my peak frequency has as much to do with the box tuning as my cabin's resonant frequency?

And car is 2000 chevy malibu by the way

Yeah the low box volume and port area is causing you to peak real low. Moat cars resonant freq is right around 50hz.

I don't know the subs but doubling power will get you up to 3db gain I would only count on a 1db gain. A better box will be your biggest gain. I could see as much as a 3-5db gain compared to that pos box.

for tuning with an all around good musical box around 33-35hz is usually recommended. Using round ports you could swap them out for shorter ports easily for a higher tuning so you can do better on a meter. For 2 12s you want around 3.5-4.5 as a rough suggestion of net volume.

a more difficult and idea is to male a slot ported box. Port being tuned to around 38-42hz then use mdf to shrink the port sown to lower tuning for daily use. Just takes more work that route.

1.6 cu ft net

16 sq in vent 18.5 in long

F3=31hz

Is what it recommends per sub on manufacturer website

I like the idea of switching ports.

He was saying doubling his power to so that, so 1200rms. Possible but hard.

2 12s on 1200watts I could see a 140-141 maybe a 142.

Yeah and you will have a little more then double the power. You also have a lot of experience with box design.

op double power I could see a low 140 in a good box. However if you want to get to a 145 around 2-3k on 2 12s can get you there. With the the right box of course.

first to OP build a good box and it will for 1 sound better and be louder. MAY BE if you put 1.2k to each sub you may hit a 145 but with 600 rms each in a box made for music not burps I don't think so

Second Alaskan I hit 142db with 1 12 on 1200wrms with stock electrical easy so it is possible hell my goal is a 145 with 1 12 lol

2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d

140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed)

140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL

142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at)

141 on music.
