2 SA 15's or 1 Sundown X 18?

Recommended Posts

Been searching around and thinking about this for awhile now, but decided to get some input on it. Currently I'm running a Kicker L5 15 on a Planet Audio BB1400.1 @ 1ohm. It's not to bad but I'm tired of having these thrown together budget systems.

I'm planning on, over the next 2 months, on redoing my whole vehicle (1997 Explorer), I'm running 100% stock on electrical. With a crappy front battery and a 90Amp Alternator. I will be upgrading my Alt/Battery before I get anything else.

I can't decide if i want 2 Sundown SA 15's or 1 Sundown X 18. I want to be able to handle the lows with authority but still be able to hit hard.

Another thing is amps. I've searched around and it seems like some of the best bang for the buck is with the Hifonics Brutus Amps.. Was thinking about going with a Brutus 2000.1D.

Whatever subs I end up going with, I'm going to end up definitely doing The Big 3 in 0Awg and running all new wiring to the back (Currently running 4Awg Stinger)

Also on the electrical side what would be a good Size of HO Alt, would a 185Amp DC Power alternator and a battery in the back work fine for 2k RMS?

And I've read that throwing a 2nd battery in the back if it's not the same type of battery in the front that it would reduce the life of both quickly. So would I be better off just throwing either a yellow top Optima or like a XS Power D1200 in the front?

Thanks

Derrick.

If you have enough room 2 SA 15s have cone area advantage and should be louder given the proper enclosure. If you want to hit the lows tune the enclosure low.As for your electrical I would start off with the big 3, and a large second battery because you may not need a H/O alternator

A 2k system can sadly be ran

With 1 good rear batt and a good front

With 140-180a alt up from

If you start going over 2k then that all changes

Another think you need to consider is how hungry are the amps

The brz amps are very power hungry,

If you supply the power they are a good amp, if your on the week side then you will smoke them

Both systems you are looking at want 2-2500clean

You'll get more cone area and motor force with the 2sa but more Xmas with the X

So idd say littler to no difference between the 2

But they could be a huge difference once in a box

Because that will make or break what you have

So off that basses if I was you

Idd work out some box designs and let the best one choses what you go for

What are your max dimensions and budget for subs and amp?

36" x 26" x 23" Would be my max dims, and total budget is 1500, but that includes all new Wiring and wiring for Big 3, either a new battery or just replace my front battery, box, and a HO Alt (If I need it) I just checked my alt and noticed it isn't the original alt. I ran the model on it and it's a 130Amp alt.

Have you considered the Rockford fosgate prime 1200 rms amp? It's under 275$ @ sonic electronix and would be perfect for either 1 X 18 or 2 SA 15s and on top of that you it wouldn't draw as much power as the hifonics amp you were considering. If you go that route you should be fine with the big 3 & a 2nd battery

What If I just kept my currently Planet Audio BB1400.1 @ 1Ohm 1400Rms. It's not the new one of the Planet Audio ones that are made by Boss it's the old model..
