Set Gains on a 4 channel amp

Recommended Posts

Looking for some guidance on how to tune a 4 channel amp with a 4 ohm rms load of 400 watts. I have 5x7 coaxial speakers in the back (60 watt rms @ 4 ohms) and 6 1/2 in. components in the front (125 watt rms @ 4 ohms).

I understand how to determine voltage needed to the amp using ohms law (400 watts *4 ohms= 1,600 watts) Square root equates to 40.0 volts.

My question is does the actual rms of the speakers matter when tuning the amp?

Or do you set each speaker input terminal separately to get the correct voltage for each speaker? For example, speaker is 60 watts @ 4 ohms= 240 watts. This accounts to 15.49 volts if you take the square root. So, both coaxial speakers should set each speaker input terminal @ 15.49 volts?

Same process for the components?

Also, what would be the best track (in hertz) to set the gains)?

Appreciate the help
