94 Ford Beast-350 OBS CCLB - Motor is done, need to sell, questions-please help

Recommended Posts

Scott...always puttin in work buddy...

:)

Thanks! That's what I do.

damn i need that parts cleaner ive got some crabs i got to rebuild

Harbor Freight, just had a sale on them for $99. Get the fluorescent yellow greaser, was right next to it a the two I had to go to to get it. Use about a half a bottle and fill it to the fill line. Just to save you some measuring time. LOL The only part that sucks about it, is I don't know when I'll ever use it again, when I'm done with this project. Maybe I'll just sell it.

And I hope that you mean to say Carbs not crabs!! Otherwise you have some explaining to do cause I'm guessing if you have to rebuild a crab, you may as well boil it and eat it cause it ain't gonna come back to life. Sorry. LOL

Good to see you're working on it, instead of someone else! For my 302 I just soaked my rockers and pushrods in diesel. Didn't go that far out with a partswasher. Sure ate the oil off them though lol. Would be nice if you could run the 9333PT1 headgaskets. Best ones you can get, IMO that aren't MLS. But if everything's setup right, i'd throw the MLS Cometics on, you can reuse them. Dunno if you looked into them options yet though.

Also, for the lower intake. I'd take your intake gaskets, put black RTV sealant on both sides of the water jackets, Then do the front and rear valley seal with RTV Sealant. Don't use the cork gasket or rubber gasket shit they give you, it will leak. I've done it this way plenty of times and no leaks. Throw your intake on and let it squash it down then let it seal for a few hours before starting ( if you do get it all done )

Good tip, thanks. I'll give that a shot. Ok, like I said I'm not a mechanic, what part is the water jacket? I understand putting it all around the areas where the gaskets would go. Don't I need to worry about it getting into the ports though? Sorry if these are dumb questions being this far in.

I really enjoy watching this build, keep the pictures coming!

Thanks. Pictures are two fold, for your enjoyment and learning if needed, and for me to be able to put it back together if i get stuck HA!!

Kudos for doing the heads yourself. Its a tedious task.

Thanks Ken. I had serious doubts, but Billy Rust talked me into it, and has been a HUGE help along the way. He and his ford mechanic friend. Lots of 3 way texts going on there for a while. But I'm feeling good about it. Now, if only time would WORK WITH ME!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys, it's bed time for me. Thanks for checking in. Hopefully I can have more soon. I can't wait to get this thing up and running. I'm very nervous though. Like I said, this is the most I've ever been elbows deep into an engine before. But it's fun, I'm learning a ton and enjoying it.

I wouldn't worry about putting it around the air intake ports, since you're really not running any fluid or type of boost through that. As long as you don't coat it crazy you shouldn't have to worry about it getting into the water ports. Im not sure if your motor is the same as a 351/302, But after going back and looking, doesn't look like you have any cooling in your rear portion of your intake, looks like its sealed off, But the very front port on the left and right of the head and intake is your water jacket for coolant to flow through. The way i'd do it, Put sealer on the head around the gasket, run a bead down over the intake valley top on the block to the other side around the water jacket, repeat with back. Throw your gasket on, repeat, but the valley do a smaller beat across the valley. If i remember tomorrow, i'll grab some pics to show you what im talking about. I'm down to the block on my 302 right now, same principal basically.

Gasket wise, I would of tried to find fel-pro gaskets on everything, headgasket, intake gasket, then if you buy good exhaust gaskets, you can reuse those just clean them, spray them with high tack copper spray. Spray the headgaskets with the same high temp copper spray also. Made by permatex, its in a orange can. maybe 8 bucks. Worth it for extra prevention in my opinion. If you need any help, I'd be more then glad to answer any questions that i can. I did the same thing on mine, pushing 12-14lbs of boost and no issues, Other then my head being warped from when my fan took out my radiator, and overheated my car.

  • 1 month later...

WOW it's been a minute since I was able to work on this again. With my daughters' softball season starting, I now have practices Friday, Saturday, and Monday, with indoor soccer on Sundays, and now I've started my softball league on Wednesdays, and I've been working at home for my parents part time to make some extra auido/truck lift, wheels and tires money. So it's been a while!!

But, I managed about 5 hours yesterday and got some good progress done. I'm going to upload pics tonight. I'm about a day or two away from starting the put back.

Yesterday I managed to get the block cleaned, the headers out and primed, the power steering pump off and the bracket and pulley cleaned off, and the entire engine bay cleaned, and the exposed metal parts primed. So, next will be painting that, the headers, the power steering pump bracket, and the smog pump and bracket, and I need to get the original battery tray back out and get it sanded down and primed and painted. Tedious work, but when all is done, and she's all put back together, she'll be beautiful and hopefully get me some extra cash out of it.

Also managed to get some color on the outside as a test. I'm thinking about plasti dipping the whole truck and doing a spray in bed liner. Nothing expensive, but just something off the shelf. We'll see. I like the two I picked, but at the end of the day, I may just fix the grey stripe down the middle that is fading badly, and be done with it. I need a new front bumper too from a few years ago when I was in a little accident. Bumper has a pretty good dent in it, and I'd like to replace that.

So more work to be done before that Sale sign goes on, but it's getting there. Gonna be hard to let her go after all this time and all this work!

Sorry guys, been a busy week. Here are some pictures from last weekend. I'm going to get on it again today so I may have more tonight as well. Here we go.

Decided to take this noisy power steering pump off. I have another one that I bought after I found out this one was so noisy that I know isn't, but never took it off because of what was involved and I had a hard time getting down in there.

Old one on

New one ready to go on. But that won't happen today. Bracket needs some attention.

Here's the model number in case anyone is curious

Ok got my tools ready. The little specialty tool that I got from Oreilly. Pretty cheap.

11017209_707267102715756_141390202508714

Hold the nut part of the bolt, and with the air gun go to work. It actually needed a better hold down, so I went to my vice with it. That helped, since I only have two hands.

Pully is off.

Then end result

Then took the three bolts off that hold the pump itself on.

Time to clean it up. I didn't take a bunch of pics but I actually sprayed it down with engine cleaner, followed by some brushing with the wire wheel on the air grinder. Followed that up with more engine cleaner, and brushed the rest by hand.

Time to tackle the motor.

10669057_707267226049077_525755989660709

I shoved a bunch of rags into the open areas to try and keep water out of it. Obviously this would be easier with the engine completely out and torn apart, but it has to be done.

Some before pics, lots of build up, gunk and rust.

Sprayed it down with engine degreaser. Tired to stay away from the center there.

This was after rinsing it off and then some wire wheel work around the gasket area and timing area. Watch the progression.

Took this hose off from in front of the frame that was coiled up down there and going to the power steering gear box.

After a lot of work, this is the end result. Next I need to prime everything to protect it and paint it.

This was the before picture of this area. This is where the distributor goes. I cleaned it up as well. I just forgot to take another picture of it cleaned up.

Now comes the fun part.

Time to clean the deck, pistons and cylinders. First took the header out. Gonna paint those too.

Driver side header.

11045443_707267549382378_829985109751715

To clean the deck, pistons, and cylinders, I used a brass wire wheel on my air grinder, very low power, and WD-40. No engine cleaner here.

Let's get to cleaning. Before.

11101506_707267592715707_465873047547224

This was sprayed with WD-40 already so it looks worse than it was. i was letting it soak in. Passenger side is way worse than this side believe it or not.
