Home bluetooth speaker

Recommended Posts

So I decided after not having any tunes on my deck that would build my own bluetoth speaker because one the ones like the Pill or Jambox are spendy, and two it would be a fun project. Because hell, I don't have enough of those. lol

Not sure on the design yet but i want it to be on the smaller side.

Here's what I am thinking:

Amp+bluetooth+power supply

Full range speakers 4 ohm

https://www.parts-express.com/celestion-neodymium-5-full-range-woofer-4-ohm--299-414

Tweeters 8 ohm

https://www.parts-express.com/1-2-mylar-dome-shielded-tweeter-8-ohm-with-33-ohm-resistor--279-001

Ok so my question is: If I do decide to run the tweeters do they need to be 4 ohm also and if they do would an inline capacitor work and if so what cap do I use?

Just a thought about the tweeters not sure I would even need them.

New build coming........

Looks like it will be a cool little build, I have thought of doing something similar. I would run the full range at 4 ohms and use 8ohm tweeters wired in parallel for a 6 ohm load. But those full range speakers are only 25 watts rms. Wired in parallel assuming that amp puts out rated (i doubt it will) you will be overpowering them. I would look for something in the 75 watt range.

Yeah that is probably a better Idea to do that. I was being cheap. lol

So if I want to run the tweeter parallel with the full range they have to be the same ohm correct?

No, they can be different. The higher coil rating on the tweeters will keep them from being overpowered. Higher resistance = lower power.

ah make sense...had a duh moment last week i guess.
