DLO197
So i recently went from a sealed box to a ported box with the same subs (JL12W3@4ohms) one of the subs froze up .I called my local shop to ask Q&A and was told it was because i didnt break in the subs for the ported box .......is this true or am i getting BS from a sales guy..... note the subs are still on the same amp and have been used for 3to4 months in a sealed box prior to the ported
boom50cal
They are bullshitting you. What kind of music do you play? What amp? Mind snapping a picture of how the amp settings are? From my experience, sealed enclosures are a bit more forgiving than ported enclosures. My bet is you were playing WAY below tuning(not hard to do on a prefab ported enclosure) and blew a sub. DLO197
amp is a jl 1000/1 , I play all kinds from e40 to SRV Country Rock you name it. I tune to specs ,also to boot the specs of the box are different then the manufactures website specs I told the guy i needed a 1.75 cuft net box and he sold me a 1.35 . I took the subs out and the car is sitting at a different location so no pics
boom50cal
Wow, so 2 12's in a 1.35 cube box? Not NEARLY big enough man. On 1/4/2013 at 9:31 PM, HatersGonnaHate said: Wow. 184 posts and I think you're a fucking asshole.
Kranny
subs blew because of the amp clipping. clipping is caused by misconfigured amp/headunit settings.
DLO197
Sorry bout that Its 1.35 per side but it needs to be 1.75 . I talked to the guy he is replacing the subs and i have some old w3s at my shop that Im gonna put in this ported one and sell then do what i should have done in the first place and make one to 30hz specs . I'm new to this forum do people talk smack a bunch in here ? Thanks for the info 160db . as for amp clipping why would only one sub be affected and not both since it is a mono block amp?
