Jhunt94 Posted July 30, 2014 Report Share Posted July 30, 2014 Okay, so I have a customer who ordered a marine head unit for his boat along with some marine speakers and a marine amp. The head unit is a Kenwood KMR-M308BT for anyone wanting to know. After I got everything wired up I pulled out the handy, dandy DD-1 to do some tuning. I hooked it up to the rca's coming from the head unit and could not get any kind of reading, not even a frequency detect. My first thought was maybe bad rca's, so I checked those and they're good. Then I decided to try to check the output on the head unit using the speaker wires from the head unit's wiring harness and it worked like a charm. I proceeded to retry again on the rca's using a much shorter length and still had the same problem. I pulled out the manual and noticed that it said that the rca out voltage was 500mV and I didn't believe it at first but since I couldn't get a reading I guess that I read that right. So my question is. Is 500mV too low to trigger the dd-1? And if so can that signal be boosted somehow? 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab. Jhunt94 Posted July 31, 2014 Author Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 Yeah, I thought it was strange too, and the yeah I would turn the head unit up to 33 and then turn the gain up on the amp. As far as the amp there are no other settings on the amp other than the gain, I've never seen anything like it. There isn't even a setting for the crossover. The customer bought a package with the head unit, speaker, and the amp. The head unit is a kenwood and the amp and speakers are Pyle which could very much have something to do with it. All of the settings on the head unit as far as the equalizer is concerned are set flat. 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab. The pre out voltage should be 2.5 volts, which should be plenty enough. I'm going to go and play around with the settings when I get the chance. There is a setting when it is in standby mode that changes the pre outs from rear to subwoofer. If it is set on subwoofer it would explain why I'm not getting a 1khz signal through the pre outs. 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab.
