DC m3 8" on a 1.2k

Recommended Posts

Could a run an m3 on a 1.2k? If I wire a dual 2ohm @ 1ohm, it would be seeing 1200w. The m3 has an RMS rating of 600w and a peak of 1200w. Is it bad to run at peak?

If I get a dual 4ohm, I can wire it at 2ohm, which would be about 700w. Is 100w over RMS safe?

at 1 ohm, you're never going to see full power, after impedance rise.

Hell, you'll probably rarely see 600 watts while wired at 1 ohm on a 1.2k amp.

Explain why a 1200w amplifier will rarely see 600w, and I'm not being facetious. Maybe I'm missing something about impedance.

I assume he means when playing music, because the power output will vary a lot depending on the sounds you are trying to produce.

When wired to 1 ohm your impedance will most certainly be anywhere between 2-8 ohms. Highly general statement, but it still applies. Different for every application, but bottom line is it is very tough to only rise to 2 ohm while wired at 1 ohm.
