Selecting the appropriate woofer with respects to RMS/nominal power handling

First new topic post, pretty excited.

I'll start by saying this is not a versus thread. I may post an example of options but will ask that feedback is limited to general insight/recommendations on driver size attributes and power rating.

I am selecting subs to complete the equipment for my 1999 4Runner. The only remaining steps after buying my woofers is designing/building my enclosure and the install, both which will be done professionally. Anyways, the question:

Given my amp (Ct Sounds 1400.1) that I'm guessing will put out 1600-1800 watts at 13v, would i be better off running a pair of subs that have a nominal power handling recommendation around 500-600 watts with the amplifier gain turned down (if necessary) or a pair of subs that have a nominal power handling recommendation of 1000-1200?

There seems to be a bit of a gap in woofers available that ask for nominal handling of 750 watts RMS (yeah yeah, ssa gcons, i know). Here are my current purchase scenarios

2 10" CT Sounds Strato v1's (500 Rms each)

2 10" American Bass XFL 1044's (1000 rms each)

2 12" C2 Audio Team 1k 12's (1000 rms each)

2 10" Soundqubed HDS310's (1200 rms each)

Again, I'm not really asking anyone to comment on the quality or preference of any of the subs above. I'm simply providing details as to my current purchase options to exemplify my current directional challenges. I know that all these are great woofers/companies and have good and bad feedback all over the internet. My enclosure will be a ported enclosure, slightly oversized if I need to compensate for running lower power to the higher nominal power rated woofers.

Any insight is greatly appreciated,

Bobby

Personally I'd throw a couple sundown sa's in there. Out of the subs you listed I only have experience with the xfl's and I'd only run those if you plan on adding another 1400.1 down the line. I put 1900 to each of mine and they loved it.

I have 2 10" Lvl 4s.. and they ate up my last 2 amps.. Ampere Audio 3800D and now my Populus proto.. They're just stock dual 1 ohm m2 4s.. nothing spectacular.

Ive built 2 boxes.. and was 2.1 cubes with a 4" aero tuned to 32/33. That played down to 27 and seemed pretty flat. It was killer.

Current box is ~2.15 with 2 3" aeros tuned to ~35hz. Its peaky between the mid 30s and low 40s and plays down to 31 (but thats expected i guess)

Imo, the first box is the way to go.

However, ill mention this.. when i was shopping, Fi BLs and Sundown Xs were on my radar too.

Wait, are you getting 2 1400s?

According to whaat you are asking based on sub choices I would do the abxfls. Because you can always run more power to them. I was running my dc 5k to 4 12"ab xfl s and they took the power fine. Happy with my abxfls sounded pretty good and clean hope that helps

Always helpful Kyle :good:

Thats cool. Im way too old to be upset by shit like that. Your name is winston. Your own parents hated you even before you were born.

My penis is bigger than your penis

I'm far from loud and my roof/headliner flaps around like Adam's ass on a windy day. I think it depends more on the structure of the vehicle.

alright, I've narrowed my options to a set of american bass drivers. 2 drivers, 10" in size. Now, what do you guys recommend as a sub powering scenario. I am not going to end up putting another amp in so this is my final daily driver setup.

Options:

American Bass XFL 1044

American Bass TNT 1044

The rms load will be 700-850 to each driver. So far, i've read that the TNT's can take 800 watts easily daily and that the xfls like more power so like 1200-1500 rms each.

Thank you for your insights.
