Will inverting subs do anything to my surround?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about inverting my SAs to squeeze a little bit more air space in my box to see if it helps with the low end at all. What I'm wondering is the surround on the SAs going to rub since I have it double MDF baffled? Or just not worry.about it and leave it how it is?

Not unless you mount it so it's rubbing.

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

Time to give it a try then. Could there really be that much of a difference in getting a little bit more air space as some people say?

i noticed a slight output in my lows (meaning i prolly lost on the meter) but don't care about that.

i also hear inverting can help with cooling..but i can't say for sure..haven't had the issue.

when i say i gained, meaning more violent feeling db about the same.

A lot of guys that gain going this is likely because they increased the box volume and listed the tuning at the same time by inverting. The only downside, besides the obvious possible rub, is hearing mechanical noise from the motor and suspension.

The good idea is to mount the sub normally to get your holes measured and drilled. After you've done this, invert the sub so you know that the holes line up with the sub as its centered. If you need to, sand down the cutout a bit so you don't have run.

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Had them mounted and one was fine and lined up perfectly, but the other one probably wouldn't have worked out. The 2nd piece of MDF is a cut a little off so if I had a lot of excursion it would rub no matter what. So put them back to normal and keeping em like that.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha
