juan777
I am in the process of walling my 2005 Tahoe 5.3 liter V8 with 4 18s. I will be driving it daily (I don't drive daily, work from home, but when I drive, it's usually a long city trip) and want to make sure I make all the changes to make it comfortable and safe. I already have 2 18s in the cargo area with 3 batteries (600-700lbs), the only upgrade I've made is my rear shocks are the Gabriel Hi-Jackers with air valve. She is smooth and I have a very comfortable ride, I can definitely tell I need bigger brakes though. When everything is said and done, I'll have 1700-1900lbs of added weight, and have a 2 inch lift, on some 17s with mean looking tires. I wanna upgrade before building. All suggestions are welcome as I am not knowledgeable in this area. philrab
Relating to brake upgrades, your brakes are only as good as your tires. Unless you're experiemcing brake fade (almost impossible for a single stop, rare in multiple stops on the street) your minimum and maximum braking distance has more to do with overall grip of your tires (even in the rain, moder ABS is amazing but only as good as the grip your tired provide.) In short, if you're running anything but really high quality tired, the brake upgrades aren't going to do any good. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount. During my several year hiatus from car audio, I raced SCCA and did track days. Learned a LOT about brakes and suspension, and put myself through part of college working as an auto mechanic. Most people don't think about tires having much effect on braking, but they are the single most important part of your car. Everything your car does, braking/accelerating/turning, happens through those four small contact patches on the bottom of the tires. They end up being the limiting factor pretty quick, especially if someone is inclined to buy cheap ass tires. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount. juan777
Can you recommend any tire brands? I'm gonna get some 16-17in rims and get some mean looking tires to give it a rugged look. Also any brands for the suspension, brakes etc... Karkov
2007 Tahoe, cheap air bag kit above and cheap Monroe air shocks. 4-15" subs, with 750 lbs. just in batteries, now add in cables, MDF, amps, etc.etc.etc.etc and mine doesn't even sag. I don't think that you NEED to get crazy changing suspension and stuff. You gain a little just by removing all interior and seats and stuff. Breaks are another thing, something I definitely need to do sooner than later...
