My HU is killin my amp

Recommended Posts

My HU Pioneer DEH-9800BT is making my amps go into protection. I've looked at checked every wire and connection. This has happened twice it will play for about 2min then goes into protection. I hooked up an cd player I had sitting arount the house and it worked fine. Man I hope you guess can send me in the right direction.

The old cd player is a Dual XD250

The voltage is dropping to 13.2 usually holds steady with amps on at 13.4

5 Volt pre-out vs. 2 Volt. Does it only happen at high volume? Did you adjust the gains on the amp to match the higher output? Could be overdriving the inputs on the amp.

Just noticed you said "amps"--what are they and do they all shut down at the same time?

Static drops are my bag.

Its happening after exactly 2min 14sec at any volume with the Pioneer. The Dual is playing okay. I haven't changed any of my settings on the amp. Their protecting at exactly the same time. Also I just notice my remote wire is hot to the touch when the Pioneer is hooked up.

It's going into protect because you didnt change your gain. The gain matches the voltage coming into the amp via RCA cables. As stated, 5 volt (pioneer) versus 2 volt (dual). The gain adjusts how much it amplifies that 5volt signal coming through. IF you even had the gain set correct with oscope or dd1 for the dual, you're trying to amplify five volts at the two volt level on the amp. Retune your gain with scope or dd1 for the pioneer and i bet you dont protect.

How many amps? More the 2 and it could be drawing to much power on the remote wire. Fried something I side of the cd player and the remote might be overloading/putting out more the the amps circuitry is made to handle as a turn on signal.

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

I had that same head unit. The subwoofer RCA's went bad. Drove me crazy troubleshooting the issue, was the last thing I checked. Mine was making some weird 2 tone sound that was distorting my music. I just got a different head unit.
