Possible to set amp to specific power output?

So installing new jbl p660c in a buddies ride and an amp that does 150wrms at 2ohm. I know the jbls take over rated because I had a set and was mean to them..but I was crossed at 80hz. He will be running full range.

my question to you guys is if there is a way to adjust gain to only get a certain amount of power after I use my dd1. I want to make it as idiot proof as possible and just get the 90wrms the comps are rated for. Wondering if its possible without something like the amm1

I think theyre pretty neat. When the water runs down your crack as you let one out... its like shitting in a crockpot.

It's probably not possible without use of an AMM-1 or scope to figure out differences in phase angles of the impedance, current, and voltage. AC power is a pretty complex thing.

You will need to be very conservative with the gain if you really want to idiot proof. Cause the DD-1 will only apply to the settings he has at the moment, so i'd make sure to even play around with setting the gain with the most extreme equalizer settings on the head unit.

Sett with the dd1 so you know where it's distortion free then back it down via the multimeter method. 90 watts at 2ohms would be 13.41 volts ac. Once you do the multimeter method check again with the dd1 to make sure it's distortion free but it should still be clean since you backed the gain down and didn't move it up.

Edit- also remember all speakers have an impedance curve so take that into consideration when setting the gain at 2 ohm's, I'd set it at a lower voltage just to be on the safe side.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll definitely do the equalizer shit just to make sure. He is used to some crappy WalMart coaxs on hu power so even set conservatively he should be impressed.
