2 12s or 1 15?

my 12in alpine type x went bad finally after years of bumping the shit out of it so now im looking to get some new subs.

the new set up is still gonna be powered by the amp that i got which is a kicker zx1000.1

im thinking of going with 2 12in alpine type Rs or 15in rockford fosgate T2 in a ported box running them at 2 ohms

would my amp be fine powering these subs since its a lil over 1000 watts rms?

also without having to upgrade my electrical system.

im open to other subwoofer suggestions that my kicker amp can power with no problems.

im looking more for subs at the mid/high entry level.

thanks.

As well stated before, "2 12s is more cone area". More cone area = better performance (not always, but on our example yes). Keep in mind that if all subs are d4. On the first case (2 x 12s) you will drop your impedance to 1ohm while on the case (1 x 15) you will have 2ohms. This means that the amplifier will push more watts on the 2 12s. So I would go with 2 x12s.

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH 80PRS
Speakers+Tweeters Amplifier: 2 x Hifonics Colossus Generation X3
Bass Amplifiers: 2 x Taramps HD8000 (quadraple copper terminals by Toolmaker Metalworkz)
Tweeters: 6 x Digital Designs VO-B2 + 4 x Beyma CP21/f
Midrange Speakers: 20 x 8" Beyma 8M100 Nd
Subwoofers: 2 x Digital Designs 9918 walled
Alternators: Mechman 320A universal + Bosch 260A
RCA: Dragster OFC twisted triple shielded
Wires: 0gauge big3 upgrade with SP audio, Currents with SP audio, Grounds with Rockford Fosgate
Batteries: 980AH of power with copper rails.
Alarm: Python 5303P

So far 161.4 dB with a Cadence 9kW @ Salamina 2014.

Larger cone area compares favorably only if you manage the same excursion, say you have the 15 sub moving 15mm, and the two 12s also moving 15mm, then yes the two 12s displace more air.

It would be difficult for anyone to tell you if you are going to get same excursion on both options on the same power, subs have to do with it, box has to with it.

2 12s each on 1K vs 1 15 on 1K in their respective recommended boxes, then yes you are likely on the safe side saying the 2 12s will overtake the single 15.

I would definitely choose a 15 inch T2 over 2 12 inch type R's. I ran T1 12's a few years back and gave them damn near double rms and they took it like a champ. Quality built subs for sure.

Also, I used to run 2 12 inch HDC4's in my car and now I'm running 1 15 inch HDC4 and it sounds better with the 1 15. It's not going to meter as high but I don't give a fuck about that.

Edit: This is all in my experiences. Your mileage may vary :)

Go with 1 15 if you have a budget the more stuff you want the more its gonna cost. If u buy 1 15 you can spend more and get quality, get a nice 15 and throw some power to it and i think you will be happy.

Cool thing about running one 15 is that you get a big wow factor from demos. People can never believe it's just one sub.

look into re subs thy are pretty strong for the price and they are not stupid power hungry subs they play pretty well in the lows depending on the mode but if i was u i would do an re sx 15 d1 on some rf power in a big box tuned low

what vehicle is it going in

and as a bonus the re sx is a 1000 watt rms sub but ive been running 1250 rms to mine for almost a year so the current amp u have is perfect
