im looking for a sub or subs that would sound good for the home.. im looking at the Fi X or even the Fi Q. its going to be powered by a Dayton SPA 1000. Scott posted a sell on a 10 inch sub that is a single 2 ohm. i might get that and use the Dayton SPA500.. what are my option.. i know nothing about home audio

Boston Acoustics is where i'd look. Why spend so much on a questionable amplifier? You would get a lot more for your money buying used off eBay or Craigslist. People sell badass home stereo's all of the time in my area... for about the price you would be spending on just that amplifier.

Big as all ever, tuned low or in an infinite baffle.

I would look at Dayton and wouldn't go anything below 15".

I would also suggest dipole if you care to put in much more effort than anything else.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

i already have a receiver but its only 165 watts at 6 ohms. im looking for one that does at least 500 at 4 ohm

You do not need subs bigger then 15. I run 2-12 Eminence subs off a Electronic crossover and 500 watt amp. Also run 2-15 inch Eminence off 500 watts shakes every wall in the house. A house has different acoustics then a Car less power in watts needed.

The smaller the cone area the further it is going to have to excurt in order to reach the same SPL.

The best home theaters I have been in have had multiple 18s stacked or at least 4 in a row all across the front wall in order to combat room acoustics.

I would recommend at least two of whatever you get and put them in opposite corners, not together.
