Need some help not sure what is wrong

Recommended Posts

I am stumped here I had a 15" on my 600w Orion amp I swapped it out for a Obsidian 12 ever since my lights have been dimming bad.

I swapped the Orion for a Hifonics 1600w Same thing.

Swapped my Year old battery for a Deka Intimidatior AGM , same thing.

Swapped my amp grounds same result. I have a XS750 but i want to solve this issue first. some dimming is normal but to make the car shudder and bog down?

I have 1/0 to rear and in the Big 3

I'm wondering if by some chance a bad sub-woofer could over drive the amp?

I cant fathom a single 12 1 Ohm load on a 1600w amp would make the lights dim and car to shudder when driving and not even that damn loud.. It happens even without the lights on.

I had the charging system checked it came back all OK but that i needed to charge my battery. So i just replaced the battery with the Deka.

I cant test it because I sold my old 15"

Stock is a 110A alternator

Thanks in advanced.

Charging system will show ok on the test but with the system on the signs will show. Didn't you say the test showed your battery needed charging? Why is that? It's probably because the alt is not producing the right amount of power anymore. An alt can still work if its going bad. It just won't supply as much juice as it used to.

Did you check the coils with a dmm? Impedance could have changed.

How did you do your big 3? Did you ground the alt case to the frame?

Bat to Strut bolt strut bolt to block. no place to ground to alt with out unbolting it.

Sub is metering at 1Ohm.

Grounds are all sanded and crimped with a hydraulic crimp.

Gonna get a DC amp clamp and test it.

Strut bolt to block didn't do very much for your audio.

Purpose of big 3 is to allow electrons to flow as efficient as possible to and from the alternator. Alt case to strut tower would help you.

I have to disagree. The alternator is bolted directly to the block so I'm sure there is zero resistance between the alternator and the block mounting locations. If there is its not enough to make a difference.

Negative == Strut == Block , Is how its running. I think there is a 4 awg from factory ground to battery from an old set up.

Do both subs read 1ohm impedance when wired up? The only logical explanation i can think of was that the 15 was wired to 4 ohm, if both subs are dual 2ohm
