guimond47
I was wonderin if i can keep 1 12.6 volt batt and add a 14volt batt(xs power) in parallel togethor ? Will this over charge my 12 v batt. I know my alt is running at 14.4 v and i plan on adding a diode to bump my voltage up to 14.8 ish on the alt. im just wondering if it will overcharge and damage my 12 v agm battery Quote Orion 2500D , 2-10" alpine type X. Ahmed Johnson
I think that 14 volt battery would die first from undercharging
rockFord_Expedition
First off, im only trying to help not trying to offend... 14.x isn't high enough to charge a 14v battery. If you didn't know that much, you shouldn't try to mess with anything 14V until you do alot of research as it isn't safe to do so. By research I mean search the forums, find Tony Candela's YouTube channel, he also has some books out you could learn alot from. That's a good start anyway. guimond47
Alright thanks! Im just wondering what i can do to help my voltage drop ... Id like to keep it at 14v-13.8. While playing . I had a orion 2500d that fried the mosfets because of voltage drop. The amp was tunned with my oscilloscope. Any pointers to keep voltage up? Quote Orion 2500D , 2-10" alpine type X. CleanSierra
Get a high output alternator, there's your answer. Quote Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
guimond47
Alright . with the gm alt's does it make sence after i start my truck on a cold day it notice my batts lost charge so the voltage goes up to 14.8 to recharge my batteries. I dont have volt drop when it does that. Its like the rectifier in my alt goes to max. Then once the batts are charge or a normal day ill get volt drop on idle. I have a 253amp alt... The rectifyer should output amps when it needs it shouldnt ? Quote Orion 2500D , 2-10" alpine type X. HHR Ed
If the volume was turned all the way down when it blew, then you may have had a different issue. Though low voltage can be a major issue. You will always have voltage drop no matter what. It's best to get the battery quantity and size that can supply your amps with more than what they need at full power. Run it from an alternator that is capable of charging the batts with a bit of extra amperage for overhead. Adding a 14v batt will not work. There is no quick fix. All batts connected in the same charging system must be of the same voltage, and the same type. Switching to a 14V system is a big job and requires your alternator to charge at over 16V. Stick with a 12V system and get your batts and alternator up to par. What batts do you have now? What wires? Give details of your electrical system.
