2006 F250 Supert Duty Lariat wants to go up up up!

Recommended Posts

Ok guys, I've done some research a bit, and really all I'm doing at this point is starting to confuse myself.

Here's what I do with my truck. I drive it about once or twice a week, because my wife and I carpool daily in her car. So it's not something driven a ton. HOWEVER, I do drive it on the weekends and those other times where we can't ride together. She never sees off road to go trailing or anything like that. She's a road princess basically. During the summers, we do rent a travel trailer and tow that. Otherwise doesn't tow much.

Here's what I want. I'm looking at either a 4", 5", or 6" lift. I'd like to get some 22x12" wheels, and I think I'd like 37's for tires. I may stay lower and go 35's. It's all dependent on the lift, to make it more reasonable regarding the catch. But I want a full on kit. I don't want to have to source anything out after I get the kit. I want it in a box sitting in front of me so I can open the box and get to work!

Here's the catch. My daughters need to be able to get in the truck. Sitting stock they can do just fine. My older daughter can get in if it goes taller, I don't think with much issues. My younger daughter, who subsequently sits behind me, will need help so it's good she sits on my side cause I'm lazy lol! My wife doesn't ride in it much so that's not an issue. I have stock running boards, but may go with different ones where the stepping points drop down lower than the bar itself, since again I'm not going off roading.

Install. I'll be doing the installation on this. Once that's done, I'll take it down to wherever, Les Schwab, America's Tire, Firestone, wherever to get it aligned. I may go to Firestone and get the lifetime alignment since I had that on my civic and it was a lifesaver.

Here's what I've been looking at. I did some searches and found a lot. I've always steered away from Skyjacker, Rancho, Tough and Rough Country, and Superlift Kits, due to stuff I've heard on all of the truck sites I belong too. Quality of the kit, durability issues, warranty issues (getting the warranty honored), and squeaking issues. Look ya'll I've got ADHD which makes me alot like OCD, so a squeak will drive me absolutely batty!! What I have looked into is the following.

Fabtech 6" system, with the radius arms and rear lift blocks instead of lift springs, etc. I like the Dirt Logic Shocks, because of the look but it's a very nice riding shock from what I've read. The basic shocks look cheap and while I've not heard anything bad about them, I'm just not sure about them especially for the money.

Pro Comp 6" stage II system, has basically all the same as the Fabtech system, but wit the Pro Runner shocks (pretty much the equivalent to the dirt logic) it's still $1,000 less than the Fabtech. This kit also has the lift springs for the rears over the lift blocks.

If I went a little lower to 5" lift I really like the look and quality of the Ready Lift kit. This is a higher end lift which not only costs in the lift department, but the shocks do not come with it either. The stage III kit does come complete, and by complete I mean it comes with the shocks, and extra track bar as well. Why is this significant? Well with any lift kit on these Ford trucks, you run the risk of the ever dangerous "Death Wabble" as well as eliminate bump steer, which is what starts the Death Wabble. So this kit also comes with rear add a leafs for the oem rear springs. Still uses a block under the oem springs, but this is kind of the in between if you will. The other nice thing it comes with is a billet aluminum drive line spacer to add the proper length to the drive line. Also comes with extended sway bar end links, extended bump stops, alignment cams, a drop pitman arm, and extended brake line brackets. It's really the complete kit. So I'm leaning this way, but my wallet is fighting me. This kit is $3800. Justification really would be that with the other kit some of the things that come with this kit don't on those and I'd have to buy them anyway.

So I don't know. I'd love to hear everyone's input on this. Those kits would allow me 37's. I'm not sure I want to go below the 5" lift. I know I said 4" is possible but if I'm going to spend the money I don't want to settle and I'd like a 5 or 6" lift.

Thanks for reading, let me know what you all think. I'm interested to hear your opinions on which way to go. Thanks!!!

If you want 12" wide wheels on 37s a 6" wont cut it. A 5" would probably clear 35s with a 12 wide wheel with not scrubbing.

Fabtech is an okay lift, my best buddy has an 05 with a fabtech lift and dirtlogic reservoirs and they didnt make much difference for ride quality. He has 8 inch fabtech with 38" mud grapplers and 20x10 wheels and he had to trim before putting a leveling kit on top.

BDS is the best kit for the money you're going to find. Everyone i know who has them LOVES IT, lifetime warranty and that with all parts no questions asked.

Squeaks are going to happen if you have a poly bushing anywhere which every lift has somewhere its just keeping them clean and greased.

You dont have to take my advice but there isnt much I dont know about lifted suspensions and clearences.

Edit: death wobble isnt a major issue with fords as they use pretty solid components factory, a trac bar only keeps the axle centered left to right on the truck so one tire doesnt stick out further than the other and throw off you drive line. Most come with a track bar drop bracket to keep the factory angles in check. An adjustable trac bar alone is 300-500 depending on company carli makes awesome ones for about 400.

Everythings in the attic or garage since the truck was sold last year. New build should be coming soon in a dodge cummins smile.gif

Maybe I was thinking 10 and wrote 12. Sorry.

Fabtech makes a decent lift. I've not heard many folks who i knew had them say anything bad about them. SO your friend has an 8" lift, with a level kit on it as well? Am I reading that correctly?

I appreciate your advise, thanks for lending it. Like I said I've been looking at lifts and reading and it's all starting to run together at this point. LOL.

I'm surprised to read you say that it isn't a major issue with Fords. I see it all the time in the Ford Forums. I actually have a Carli Adjustable track bar on my 94. It's beefy! I know what it does, but alot of what I'm reading fixes the wobble is that bar. The oem bar, from my understanding, often fails after a lift goes on. Something about angles and stress or something like that. I can't quote it verbatim but it's what I read. I haven't had it in this truck, but I did when I was working for a window company doing 75 on the freeway. Let's just say, I damn near had to stop at walmart for new boxers!! That was the scariest thing I ever had happen to me in my life! I don't need that even being a chance in this truck with my girls in there.

That BDS system is pretty bad ass. But wow, with everything for a 4-link 6" system, it's over $3700. I have a dealer about an hour away from me, so shipping would be free for that. Otherwise it's another $350 on top of it. But it's worth a though since everything is included. That's with Fox 2.0 shocks and steering stabilizer too. Also has the "Glide-Ride Leaf Springs" for the rear, track bar, stainless steel brake lines for front and back, and a bunch of things included in the kit. I'll have to think about that one seriously.

Again thanks for the input.

Carlisle is the best company or there for lift kits for Fords.

Unless you have a good paying job and money to burn, I wouldn't go bigger than 35s. You run into lots of issues because of it, and things like building transmission, yearly replacement of steering components, u joints, rock chips and rusting (unless you do oversize flares and flaps, which it sounds like you don't) become an issue.

Coming from a guy who lifts trucks at his shop, and owning a truck on 40s myself....

But I mean you can make your own decisions about it, I just though I'd shed some light on things you may not be aware of! :)

Yea ive rode in several different super dutys with fabtech, BDS, rough country, and pro comp. BDS smashes them all in terms of quality and and performance by a long shot. There are better companies out there like one up offroad but your looking at 12k or better just in parts. But BDS is the best box lift you'll find.

As long as your trac bar angles are correct with your drag link and all the bolts and bushings are good there should be no problems. Most death wobble happens from bad bushings and loose bolts.

I would think a 10" wide wheel would be fine with 6" lift and 37s
