Need someone to look over my first box build

Recommended Posts

so I've been working on this box design for a couple weeks now.

Need to know:

The box design is already at its maximum dimensions and will squeeze into my truck.

I have a 99 f-250 extended cab.

My drivers will EVENTUALLY be 2x Sundown X-12 V.2 when they hit the shelves. for now i have a skar vvx12 and a kicker comp(not sure the model, got it for $10)

My power is: 1xSoundQubed Q1-2200.2 1x XS Power D3400 and stock alt for now.

For space requirements, I will be using Aero ports.

Now for my questions:

1. 4x18 ports would be ideal(tuned to 33), but im not able to fit them anywhere, so i went with 3x12 tuned to 30

2. are where i have the ports now going to be a problem? mainly the top one. What i mean is, the inside of the port is so close to the cone area.

3. the end result will be 2.8cu ft, after bracing, how much do i realistically need to brace this box, given it's unique design?

Also, any general feedback on my design would be great!

Thanks,

Troy

Interesting design.

1. You don't have anywhere near enough port area. Sundown recommends 40 sq in per X-12. You don't want to cheat yourself on port area.

2. I would still brace your enclosure.

Thank you for the response, and that is what I was afraid of, any ideas for ports?

40 sq inch is alot, 2 4" wont even do that. 2 6" would suffice but i would need 36" of tubing.

Should i try a slot port and put internal volume to 2.5?

And something else i might have mentioned if you were having trouble picturing where the box was going, it will be placed in the backseat, passenger side. The bottom area being on the floor and the rest on the seat, with the top sub firing into the corner

Okay, I drew up another design. 2 X10s in 2.5cu ft. current tune is 30hz from my calculations. box is .1x over 2.5 because i havent modeled bracing yet. Not sure if its good as is.

The port area is just above what is stated on the Sundown website, but I was reading a post on here: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/177145-sundown-x-10s-or-zv3-12s/ and there it is stated it depends on tuning frequency and xmax of driver(makes sense). Sundown recommends 24^3 ft @ 32. so how would 30hz compare?

Also, on that thread they were saying upwards of 75in^2 for 30hz...that is...monsterous...

Anyhow, should i calculate it myself? (if so, do i use 30mm for xmax or 50xmax(mechanical limit)) or should I use something closer to the reccomended port area on the Sundown website?
