Just wondering if a battery selection kit would be something that can be done.

What I'm looking at is having a separate battery in my trunk to play music when the car is off. Basically, I want to separate the 2 sources without an isolator. I do not want to put any extra load on my alternator when I turn the car on again. I'll recharge the 2nd battery at home on a charger.

Let me know if this makes sense or even possible. Thanks.

Are you talking about the add-a-battery kits? If not can you link what you're talking about for a better idea?

Somewhat like an add a battery kit. But, the 2nd battery will never see an alternator charge. With car on, music will play off the front battery and alternator. Trunk battery is not connected at this point. With the car off, I'll flip a switch (or switches) and power to play music will come only from the trunk battery. Front battery will not be connected.

I get what you're saying. Just not sure what you're talking about on the CE Auto electric site. From some quick browsing, you would need this master switch

http://m.ceautoelectricsupply.com/site/ceautoelectricsupply-jdc/batterydisconnectswitches?url=http%3A%2F%2Fceautoelectricsupply.com%2Fbatterydisconnectswitches.html#2989

But instead of single pole single throw, you would need single pole double throw. Email/message Tony S. (aka. SNAFU) and I'm sure he can cook one up for you.

But you would also need a way for the inputs for the amp to change at the flick of a switch too. It's been a long weekend for me so I'm drawing a blank, but talk it out with snafu and I'm sure he'll tell you everything you need. His contact information should be listed on the CE Auto website

And what will you do when voltage drops so low on that battery that isn't being charged that it kills the battery and fry's all your gear?

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

I would still suggest more than just a single battery though. I wasn't going to input on it, just give you the info you wanted instead, but even 1400 will drain a battery faster than you might think.

Have you ever watched your voltage while playing with the car off?

Start off with one 100aH AGM battery (XS Power D3100) and if you need more then get more.
