Still, nobody knows why the voltage drops.

Recommended Posts

Pepboys, that was a mistake. And today I had it towed to the acura dealership. The stock alternator tested fine they said and it will still sit and idle at 14.4 volts. Drive it, and you won't make it five blocks. The voltage is still fading while driving until it stalls. I was hoping it was the alternator so I could just have them install the Mechman I have. But don't really want to do that untill the issue is resolved. I said it probably a ground. But from how he sounded, unless the car is giving them codes, his mechanics are useless.

I had a really bad issue with voltage, turned out it was a combination of my amp power and ground wire being too small.

Try that?

My car was dying when the bass hit using a 1,600 watt amp a couple days ago.

Now today I'm pushing 2,100 at idle and it hasn't dipped below 14.3 on music.

So let's make a list.

  1. Stock(?) alt was test and was said to be good with car at idle. Will the car idle all day if need be?
  2. You said driving off the car will sooner or later stall. Lets say if you stay on your brakes put car in drive and just stay at idle will the car die?
  3. Are you monitoring voltage while driving. I think Acuras had/have a ELD. I'm not to sure but if that starts going bad it can either spike voltage through the roof, or drop voltage when reving.

Have you also tested battery. Dead cells in batteries can give you same symptoms of a bad alt.

If it's worth building, it's worth over building.

Check every connection, i mean pull hard on it as if your trying to pull it apart and make 100% sure it has a proper crimp or solder job.

Bad crimping and solder joints can cause many a headache trying to solve electrical issues.

It will idle all day. It was good with foot on the brake also. Its as soon as you drive it. I might just have them install my Mechman today. And I have a xs power d 2400 coming today via UPS. I want the car back so I can double check the grounds. They checked the alternator with a digital multimeter and someone stepping on the gas. I wanna put the engine ground back to its original 4 gauge. It was corrosive, so I just swapped it out for 1/0, then move that somewhere else. Someone said it could be the voltage regulator in the alternator which needs a heavy load find out if it's gone bad
