Subwoofer dustcap getting hot

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bassheads. I am currently running into a heating problem. I started to notice my subwoofer gets warm/hot to touch when playing full tilt for a while (20-30 minutes). I do not smell any electrical burn (burnt coils). Below is a screen shot of torres and what my box size and the tuning frequency. My subwoofer is an Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection D2 10". My amp is a Sundown Audio SAE 1000.1D wired to 1 ohm. Incriminator Audio recommends a box size .9 cubes - 1.5 cubes, 12 - 25 Inches of Port, 28-35 Hz (Average: 1.25 cubes, 18 inches, 28-35 Hz). Is my enclosure too big for the amount of power I am feeding the amp? Or should I have gotten the additional spider and optional 4-layer flat wound coil? Thanks.

Your box specs look pretty reasonable. How do you have the gains on your amp set? If you clipping a little that will heat your sub up.

I set my gain on the amp via the dd-1 track 5. I had to use a ddm to set the output voltage on the lc2i to ~4 volts. Could that be causing the sub to heat up a bit?

When I tried the first time using the dd-1 on my lc2i, I was able to max out the gain and accu-bass as well. I tried a few times because I thought that was wrong. Lol. So I decided to use the ddm to set the gain to ~4 volts (just a hair under).

Make sure you are using 0db setting for everything but the amp

Okay. So when setting the gain and accu-bass on the lc2i, use track 1? And when setting the gain on the amp, use track(s) 3, 5, or 7?

Cool. Thanks. I was also searching online for any dyno runs of my amp using dynamic rms. I did happen to find a website that Sundown posted the dynamic rms power (burst) dyno run at 1 ohm.

Could this also be the cause to my issue? Found it on this website http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/sundown-audio/164230-2014-sundown-sae-amps-dyno.html

No. That's perfect world results, you won't see that with music. But if it worries you, then instead of using track 5 of the DD-1 cd, there's a thread on here that you can download tones from that you can search for. Download the 40hz -7.5dB and set your amp gain with that.
