Al LaPorta Posted July 27, 2015 Report Share Posted July 27, 2015 Looking to get loud again! my current car is a 2006 audi a4 sedan trunk opening is ~ 17"x36.5", actual trunk size 18" high, 39" wide, 41" deep, I have a $1500 max budget for subs.. prodigal_son Posted July 28, 2015 Report Share Posted July 28, 2015 I'm sure that othrers can reply with more exotic or fashionable solutions, but I just put two Infinity 120.9Ws in a sealed box driven by a Pioneer GM-9601 in my son's Civic. They get loud enough to scare other drivers into jamming on their brakes because they think they've hit something, and they sound pretty damn good. The amp was less than $200 from Sonic and the Subs were $140 each. That's way under your budget, maybe get a new HU and some other goodies? Glad I could shine a little sunshine your way. Seriously though, neither I, my son, or his friends know ground pounders in the way that some of you do, but by pure dumb luck I built him a system that is loud with low bass for when he wants to be loud, sounds good, was economical, and didn't require any mods to his car beyond a new HU, cabin speakers, heavy power wires to the amps and a Big 3. I'd say I fuckin' nailed it for turning his daily driver into something all the other kids going off to college want. It will make his two hour commutes home on breaks more fun, think maybe it qualifies as a junior ground pounder? I think a lot of people would be satisfied with it, and it didn't cost a year's salary. That's my point, didn't mean to hijack OP's thread. It may certainly sound good and be loud to you because loud is a relative term but I seriously doubt that it scares other drivers on the road. And yes I'm sure plenty of others would be satisfied with it as well as not all of us want crazy loud setups. I would consider my truck a ground pounder seeing how is does over 150db down to 22hz and over 155db down to 31hz. The system I put together for my son's car was specifically not expensive, it was a little over $2k including everything and I didn't need extra batteries or a bigger alternator. My kid is just going to get in and twist the knob(if it had a knob), and I wanted something that is a quantum leap up from the stock system that would also be relaible with no special care and feeding. So far, it looks like I achieved that. Based on what I've seen in this forum I'm guessing that the OP isn't going to be building a ground pounder either.
