Home audio station

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, So i got to thinking the other day and i want to build a home audio station in my living room. I'm a little stumped on the situation and i was hoping for and advice or ideas any of you could help and any constructive criticism i could get.

I have a lot i want to ask and need advice on but i am going to try to keep this as short and simple as i can.

To begin with, I want the 'station' or whatever you want to call it to be used for music.

This is my inspiration i got for building to give an example

http://techtalk.parts-express.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45709&d=1395443043

My design i have in mind is a little different, but this gets the image im looking for portrayed.

I want to have the sub woofer separate from the enclosure and i want to run it off of a Dayton audio plate amp from parts express. im saying this because i wasn't to be able to use the sub woofer for multiple things, plug to sound bar for games, into computer, and so on.

My questions are how do i power the mids and highs for this enclosure and still incorporate the separate sub woofer with the separate amp?

I came a crossed the Crown XLS1500 power amplifier and it looked like the right amp for the job.

How do i properly set up this amp to power my speakers and also have the separate sub woofer amp?

I also want to be able to have a aux cord to plug phones into, or my ipad or computer.

can this be done? or does anyone have any suggestions on how i should power these speakers?

Am i looking at this all wrong? please any suggestions or comments questions you have feel free to ask.

I am very open to new ideas. This is still in planning phase.

Thank you kindly, mike

get a good receiver and amp combo. (one with airplay support if you have apple products like the ipad, bluetooth streaming is nice too) Aux can be taken care of with a simple RCA-Aux cable but most receivers have it built in now on the front.

accesories4less or whatever has refurb. marantz and denon gear and it comes with a warranty.

sounds like a nice 2.1 setup would work. I wouldn't run a headunit like that guy did unless you want it compact and portable. From your post I didn't really know what way you wanted to go with it.

There are a ton of speaker kits on partsexpress, madisound, G/R Research, diysoundgroup and others that you could choose from. Ranging from like $60 a speaker all the way up to a grand or two. But a kit sounds like it may work out well for you.

Also I would stay away from prosound amps like the crown amp unless you have a enclosure as the fans are usually loud. But kinda depends on your application.

Thanks for getting back to me i appreciate your input.

I had a lot to say and need to get clear and tried to make the post as short as i could and would address my problems as people replied.

For the speaker situation i have some car audio speakers laying around i wanted to use for instance, i have a pair of selenium ST200's laying around i wanted to use and some prv 8 inch mid woofers i wanted to incorporate if possible.

If i was using a good receiver, do you have and suggestions on and that you like?

The only reason i was looking into pro amps is the power difference seemed like it would benefit more of what i had in mind being able to power multiple speakers.

Thanks again, mike.

PA amps are cool, they aren't designed for the everyday home user though so make sure you know what you are getting. Fans are definitely a consideration for me.

would not be used everyday just casual music listening.

and i do not know where to begin with on how to set up a Pa amp.

Could anyone give me direction?

Pretty much the same as any amp. Power, source, and drivers. Source might be weird if it doesn't have RCA, so watch for that.

So the speakers go to power amp, what am i hooking power amp up too? like i need something to make the separate sub woofer amp and the power amp be able to connect. Also something that has RCA or something for AUX cord. I don't know if you understand what im saying here.

Thanks for the reply
