Man now you got me wanting to try to my sails. What are yous sanding them with?

Took off the thick stuff with a dremel, but mostly by hand. 80 grit.

Looking good.

That's a pretty clever idea with the pvc.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

So I need a little help. I don't know how to design this amp rack. What I want is basically this (just pay attention to the amps, not subs):

53z6uxj.jpg

I'm going to be building a box to hold the amps, and then the rear board (towards the trunk, so what you see) will also be a beauty panel and be wider than the rest of the amp box. I wanted to mount the amps to the rear board so that the guts are visible. More I think about it the more I don't think that's possible though.
I don't know how to secure the beauty panel to where it's removable, so that I can get to the amps, and still have a clean look on the outside. It's going to be 1/2" plywood, so I don't trust magnets to hold that on there if the amps are mounted to it.
Actually, just thought of this while I was typing, maybe I can do hinges on the bottom so it folds out/down, then magnets all along the sides and top. Could be those cupboard magnetic latches (like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Liberty-White-Heavy-Duty-Magnetic-Catch-with-Strike-C080X0C-W-P/100149442). But then I wouldn't be able to mount the amps to the rear board, I would have to mount them to the opposite side (towards the front of the car), and then would only be able to display the top/chassis.
Who's got ideas?

I've done beauty panels before. If you want to do a press fit panel, it's easier than you may think. The big thing is making is the panel have the EXACT contours you are trying to butt up again.

I can walk you through it if you want.

Yeah, I can't remember who gave me the idea, but I did it with the A pillars in my Blazer too. Makes things easy.

Actually, now I remember; it was KHA. That man knows everything.

That looks really nice man. And I appreciate it, but I'm just going to use brass screws. They don't look bad against stained wood, and it makes things easy.

Shot them with one light coat of primer. Did a test fit, and luckily it fits right in there.

Unfortunately, they ended up not being aimed where I though I pointed them. So instead of opposite headrest, they seem to be both pointing at right in between both seats, kinda like at rear seat opposite headrest. I'm sure it will be fine, but it annoys me.

To save a lot of smoothing work, anyone think I could wrap them with speaker grill cloth and it still look ok? There's not really any other cloth on my dash. I'm up in the air about this. I think I only want to do it because I'm lazy lol. From an aesthetic standpoint, not sure it's the best move. Thoughts? Laid the cloth over for reference.

They should still sound good pointed in the middle. Some sq vehicles have them pointed towards the rearview mirror.

Oh,.....and don't be lazy. Fill up those holes and resand!

I'm on it :)

Well, while I work on the sails, I can put up pictures of the dash. Finally finished it, actually fucked up on my second attempt too lol. This is the third time. Many very light coats was the trick.

Didn't want to push anything all the way in, they have those tabs that make it virtually impossible to remove without screwing up the panel.

very nicely done, those sail panels came out really nice. If you really dont want to paint why not try to find some black leather that matches the rest of your interior rather than cloth?
