15" ZV3s vs ZV4s in the space and power that I have

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, been reading for quite a while, finally decided to join.

Let me start off by saying I own both sets of subs already and don't intend to purchase anything else. No other subs, no other amps (for now) and can't fit a bigger box.

This is for daily, although I will throw it on the meter to see if I can outdo my last setup (Three AB HD12s in the same box and amps).

So I have:

Two ZV3 15", dual 2 ohm

Two ZV4 15", dual 2 ohm

In the car I currently have:

Two Skar 2500.1s

7 cube net box with enough baffle space for two 15s and two 6" PSP precision ports, can tune as low as about 31-32hz before port's become too long.

220 amp HO Alt

Deka Group 34

Two Deka Group 31

Skyhigh 2/0 gauge pos and neg run

-------------------------------------------

So each sub will see approx 3.5 cubes net, with a single 6" PSP flared port, on a 2500 at 1 ohm (will try 0.25 ohms as well)

From what I've been reading, that's plenty of space for a ZV3, and the power isn't too bad either. The ZV4 I would imagine likes a bigger box (over 4 cubes), and could take plenty more power in a 3.5 cube box then a 2500 at 1 ohm.

But the ZV4 is a newer, higher excursion, higher motor force driver. I'd imagine better low end extension even though the box is smaller then spec. I'm thinking I could tune them higher without losing much low end either compared to the ZV3s.

Regardless, your opinions folks are highly appreciated on the matter.
