It have been 1 year and 7 month my 2011 toyota sienna mini van with 240 amp mechman alternator finally break down. I call into mechman shop for tech support today and waiting for mech tech to call back. I hope they can take care of me. That alternator really really really takes lots of punishment. what voltage were you dropping to op? what did you run on it and how many batteries? 1 year and 7 months really isnt that good unless you were abusing it terribly.

My DC Power 270 XP has been with me for over 4 years, and two (soon to be three) different vehicles. Still going strong.

That said, hope they take care of you.

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

and i know some people that theirs ^^ didn't last a week.....and they were pissed off. I have many years on my MM Alternators with no failures.

Any brand alternator can have a problem especially when it is one of the most abused products in the vehicle and is almost NEVER installed by a professional.

Platform (vehicle, make, model) can play a large part. I know 2 buddies driving a ford escape, and Kia coupe that are having problems keeping alts running in their rigs. Placement, air cooling, heat build from motor, and 48 million other things can play havoc.

all it takes is a couple of "less than fully charged" batteries to wreak havoc on an alternator. Most people think an alternators job is to charge your dead battery but really a dead or very low battery is one of the worst things you can do to it. It is already in the hottest environment in the entire vehicle while producing a lot of heat on it's own. Imagine a fully charged battery drawing about 10a just being in the car....then imagine one that is almost dead pulling 100a all by itself trying to recover. Turn that into a bank of dead batteries and you have potential for disaster. Imagine 500a continuous being drawn off your 275a alternator because you have 5 barely functioning batteries. How about having 3 batteries in your bank, 1 of them is bad but you don't know it. So it is pulling 100a by itself, drawing the good batteries down as soon as you shut the car off and making those bad too. Now add Johnny Bassfinger to the mix smashing on the system all day. That poor poor alternator.

please people, ANY brand can break, but if you take measures to insure you are not stressing the alternator out, it can live a long and happy life.

Aren't you the guy that posted a long time ago bashing MM? You're a taxi driver, yeah? How many miles did you put on it? What sort of symptoms are you having?
