LED Lights (interior and exterior)

Recommended Posts

so ive been seeing more and more videos on LED lights like brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, head lights, fog lights, and interior lights. i was looking on CarId for stuff for my car and ran across some LED lights that replace the stock incandescent. my question is are they worth it? at this time im looking to do the brake lights, reverse lights to illuminate better at night since i do alot of backing in unlit places, and maybe the turn signals. they have two different types and im wondering if the one is worth the cost or if there is something else you guys would recommend? the two different ones they have are the standard and Plazma, if i had to choose id do reverse in plazma, brake and turn in standard.

here are the reverse lights- http://www.carid.com/2009-dodge-journey-led-lights/lumen-led-lights-25668669.html

Brake, i would do red although it is already a red lens- http://www.carid.com/2009-dodge-journey-led-lights/lumen-led-lights-25671409.html

Turn will be amber- http://www.carid.com/2009-dodge-journey-led-lights/lumen-led-lights-25700696.html

Fogs idk if i want to do since they are like $80+ per bulb depending which one but here is a link still- http://www.carid.com/2009-dodge-journey-led-lights/putco-fog-light-led-conversion-kits-65729804.html

Headlights for future possibly idk which ones though if either- http://www.carid.com/2009-dodge-journey-led-lights/putco-headlight-led-conversion-kits-65730111.html

i will be upgrading the one light that is not led in my interior to LED also, but is there a different place to buy from with better bulbs or prices? im wanting a plug and play bulb, not where i need a resistor or a ballast like HIDs.

thanks anyone

I wouldn't do it with your head lights. The housing is designed to work with the OEM bulb. Not an aftermarket LED or HID, or whatever other type of light you may have a choice of. You might see that it is brighter in areas close to you, but the distance won't be as much as it was more than likely, and the way the light will reflect in the housing will more than likely scatter the light in all directions, rather than direct the light the way it was designed to with OEM bulb, thus possible glaring/ "blinding" other drivers. Same thing with the PnP HIDs. Unless you get a retrofit housing, it shouldn't be done.

Just my 2 cents.

In the descriptions, I didn't see them mention anything about the bulbs not causing hyperflash in blinkers or the brake light warning to illuminate on the dash. IIRC, it has something to do with the resistance of the bulb and if the LEDs or plasmas your replacing them with don't have the same resistance, it causes either or both of those to happen. Not the end of the world but annoyed me when I tried replacing mine.

Most of them say they are designed with it all built it in to keep it from happening. The headlights I will avoid for now. Same with fogs unless I do the entire housing with them built in. As for the signal bulbs and everything what do you think of them?

I would suggest going through a place called V-LED. I'm warning you now that their products are gonna be almost double what you have listed, but their products are SOLID. And on top of good products their lights don't cause hyperflash. There is also SuperBrightLEDs and Autolumination that are both very reputable. Bought LED lights from all three vendors and have been happy with them all. Most of my exterior lights have come from V-LED though.

So I was on there. Is it really worth doing the ones with the controller and everything or can I just do the plug and play ones? I'm hoping the pnp ones would be just fine and still better than the stock ones. What's everyone's thoughts?

There's the $110 per set ones or the other cheaper ones. Are the expensive ones really worth it over the cheaper ones?
