Frank H
I got in my car to drive home after a very loud ride to the store yesterday and my bass didn't come on. I pulled over and checked things out. Power LED is on, protect is not on. Everything looked good so I drove home to investigate further. On the way home, the sound would come back on when braking, then turn back off when accelerating. I figured it was a loose wire inside the enclosure. So I checked and both voice coils are plugged in correctly. I could not get it to come back on no matter what I tried. I figured a wire is loose inside the amp... So today I plugged the woofer into another amp and it works fine. Then plug it back into my amp and not working. So I pull the woofer out of the enclosure just to take a closer look and while pulling it out of the box it turns on.. wtf? I cant see any loose wires... Could there be something inside the woofer that I cant see that is loose? When I slap the enclosure to one side it turns off, then turns back on when I slap the other side. I wiggle the amp around and that has no effect. I checked the voice coils with ohm meter and both coils read the same at 3.4 ohm (its a dual 4 Sundown Audio X12) System is in my sig. Everything is 1/0 gauge, 2nd battery in the trunk, volt meter never goes under 13, usually sits at 13.5 when hot. Amp is 1 ohm stable but Im only running it at 2 ohm. Amp is a FSD 3800, never gets hot, barely warm. As of right now, its on and working fine.. baffled. any ideas? 3vil
Judd st to rule out the simple stuff, have you tried wiggling the speaker outs at the amp, and the RCA's?
boom50cal
have you tried pulling the sub out of the enclosure and free airing the sub off the 3800 in the car? Frank H
Ive removed the wires from the amp and plugged into the rear channel of my 4 channel to confirm the woofer works.. Then plugged it back into the FSD and it doesnt make sound. Then removed the woofer and while taking the woofer out it turned back on. Makes me think there is something inside the woofer thats making this happen. The terminals are good, the wires connected to the terminals that go toward the center of the cone look fine. I dont get it. It was working, but was scared to turn it up so I kept it low and then it turned off again. Frank H
And just to be thorough, when its not working I make sure the protect light is NOT on on the amp. The green power light is on. I plugged in the the RCA from the sub out to the rear of the 4 channel, the rear speakers made bass. I plugged in the rear channel RCA's into the mono amp and nothing.
