2 E12s sealed vs 1 sa 12 ported?

Recommended Posts

Cant decide which setup to go for. I want to get loud, but also want to have a really tight sound.

Im thinking either two e12 d2 sundown subs sealed. So sealed but having double the cone area. Would this setup get pretty loud and sound good?

or

1 Sa 12 d4 sub ported to 32 hz and 2 cubes.

Planning on buying a Hifonics brutus brx 1100.1d to power either setup.

Would the single ported sa 12 be louder then the dual e12s sealed?

Thanks for any feedback.

Why cant you have the two e 12s ported? I made a box for a friend with 2 e 12s on a 1000 watt rockford amp and i was extremely impressed with how they sounded. they were very punchy, and a lot louder than i was expecting.

My bad forgot to explain a bit. I have a jeep patriot and im trying to keep atleast half the space in the back. I throw alot of stuff in there often and need the space.

Ive done some measurements and 1 ported sa 12 would take up about the same space as 2 e12s sealed. trying to keep the width of the box under 28 or so inches.

2 ported e12s would take up too much room.

Well im not too sure which would be louder, but you could make the sub and port fire up and that might give you the space you are looking for. This is the thread that has the box made for 2 e 12's. Maybe see if there would be enough room if you had sub/port up.

Buy both and keep the one you think is louder.

The E12 are going to have a lot smoother sound than the ported SA-12 will. The SA subs have fairly peaky output in reasonably sized ported boxes. They would not be my first choice for even sound.

As far as which is louder, there isn't a simple answer. Around the tuning frequency the ported box will most likely get louder, partially due to its peaky nature. Above and below tuning the two sealed subs will most like beat it.

As a side note, I have a single E12 in a small, low-tuned ported box and I love how it sounds, very smooth and even. It get loud enough for me, at least most of the time, though my desire for loudness is probably a lot less than most folks here.

So you think 2 sealed e12s would be pretty loud?(400-500rms each) Enough to shake up my jeep patriot quite a bit? I just dont want to get 2 e12s and be disapointed with the output in a sealed box then be stuck with 2 weaker subs when i could of had 1 stronger Sa that i would go ported.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Well the problem is what's "pretty loud" to one person may not be loud at all to another. Also I prefer ported boxes vs sealed boxes because I like a little amount of rising low end response. What it really comes down to is I can't tell you what you are going to be happy with.

Two ported 10s then? That should fit easily enough

That would probably be my recommendation. Two E10s in a small box to keep the frequency response smoother.
