There is something bugging me, though - is there enough space between the port opening and the wall and why didn't you flare the other end as well?

yeah theres pretty much just enough room between the wall and the port, its around 6in, and the port is 10in wide so any closer and there could have been issues, in reality if it was any closer it would effectively lengthen the port/lower the tuning because the wall would act like apart of it. also from what ive seen and from the experience i have with aero ports (my personal experience, it may not be the same for everyone), flaring doesnt necessarily increase output or help with port noise, actually ive seen tests that show not flaring, is the better SPL option, at least at the end of the port. for the beginning of the port, you want as much opening, and for it to be as flush to the outer wall as possible so that there is the least amount of eddy currents possible. also flaring the end of it would have added extra weight and taken up crucial extra space that the port needs to properly vent.
