Charging at 13.9 too low?

Recommended Posts

Ive got two xs d6500's under the hood on a stock 130 amp alternator just installed them brand new. The truck fully charged at 2000 rpm is 13.9 and at idle is 13.8. The truck off is like 12.8. Most vehicles I see are around 14.4 charged. Is it just because I have a stock alt?

I wouldn't worry too much. There are cons to charging at a higher voltage and if you're not competing there is no reason to charge higher. You won't even hear the difference to be honest. 13.9 is good if you ask me

what did U charge at before adding extra battery's? If u charged 14.4v then I bet the battery's just arnt fully charged. Once u get them fully charged u should charge higher again.

There is no need for a big 3.. People think the big 3 is a magical thing but for a stock alt the stock wire is sufficient maybe add a ground or 2since stock ground can be shitty but changing the power wire aint going to do anything for the cause. Most the draw is going to happen on the runs to the batteries. The alt will only supply 130a at max so putting 1/0 wire won't do a thing. People who notice a difference are people who have neglected the stock wiring and needed it changed not upgraded. Upgraded wire will suffice with an upgraded alternator

true, i was referring more to the grounds than power.... but while your doing it why not do the power also???

nobody said it had to be 1/0 if it isnt necessary-

i would lean more to cleaning up connections first and relocating stock ground might help.

The big 3 can never hurt. depending on stock wiring size they dont engineer the wire to be used for constant max draw all the time since they didnt plan on a huge stereo being installed. Wires do heat up. to get most out of stock charging system and highest voltage (lowest voltage drop) the big in OFC should always be completed

i dont get the infatuation with having such a high charging voltage, especially when you dont have the amperage to hold it.

13.9 is fine.
