Will Nvidia Pascal change Gsync?

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for a new montior(s) but am curious if I buy a Nvidia Gsync monitor now will it be compatible with the new GPU's coming out this summer? I don't want the monitor to not be able to use that technology within less than a year, that would suck.

Also, with Gsync and AMD's Freesync competing right now will there be a day when there is only one? Kind of like what happened with BlueRay vs. HD DVD etc.

Has Freesync been proven to work? Freesync is a lot cheaper (obviously) but I want to run Nvidia but also don't want to buy a monitor that is rendered useless in 6-12 months time.

Just looking for info from people who know a WHOLE lot more than me.

After help from Hotdog and Audiofanaticz I plan on using Displayport technology and cabling. I have one PC with AMD GPU and one PC with Nvidia GPU but only one monitor at the moment...see my predicament??

I dont think they would walk away from it, but even if they did who cares.

I dont even use my gsync ever.

I tried, but it just dont seem as responsive as without it, but I dont think my pc is a good candate for what gsync was devolped for.

I just haven't seen a need for it (yet anyways).

After watching the release last night not sure where gsync is headed...
That being said holy shit the new cards have some serious horsepower.

GTX 1080 $599 release May 26-27th

GTX 1070 $379 release in June

The 1080 they used last night had 8gb of ram, a 2.114 ghz core clock, and 5500 mhz memory clock running at 67 degrees Celsius on air cooling. 96 frames per second in VR.

Under Construction

Thank god, now the 980's price will drop down to where I'm comfortable getting a pair.

Consumer cards likely won't be quite that badass, in fact it's a safe bet they won't at all. 1080 still looks like an insanely powerful card, really excited to see how it perfoms.
