Sub Stops Playing, AMP ISSUE? Amp Doesn't Protect (still green light)

So as I turn up the volume about 15 percent or so, the sub stops playing completely, leaving only my door speakers playing. So I check the amp light and its still green, not red. I turned the car off and restarted, the amp turned on, again green light but no sound. What could be the problem?

This happened as I was playing the VM Audio ECW120 Encore 12". I thought I fried the sub because I was playing it at 90-95% volume for about 2 minutes, so I got a new SoundQubed HDC3 15" D2 Copper 1500W RMS. Played it at 15% volume and same thing. So I rewired everything all the grounds positives and speaker wires, changed the remote wire and rewired the audio battery all to double check loose wires. All fuses are good too. Still same thing. The amp is a Rockville RXD-M4 its a class D monoblock high power amplifier with 6,000 watts peak output, 3,000 watts RMS output and 1500 watts CEA-2006 rated power. The gain is set to about 75 percent. Is it a fried amp? What could be the problem here?

Tough to say unless you have a spare amp to test and see, without known good equipment for testing your kind of in the dark trying to trouble shoot things like this. You can check your voltage and resistance at the amp and see if there is a problem in your wiring.

Welcome to SMD!

Do you have the sub amp playing off of the sub out from the head unit? Maybe try switching to the rear output to see if it still does it.

Ive done all the testing with the multimeter, everything is perfect. Running at 14.9 volts at the amp. I tried a different sub still nothing. Just green light no sound. Im using high to low converter from the back speakers so i thought it was bad, got a new one from the car audio shop, still nothing. I feel like the amp took a dump? although rated at 3000 rms@1ohm. I'll try wiring a different amp see if anything happens.

smell near the amp. see if you get that lovely scent of burnt ozone. cranking at 75% gain you could have clipped the amp to death.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I got a new amp (cab 1600.1) and same thing. So I went for the inputs and for some reason the high to low converter didn't work. Turns out that I hooked them up to my stock subwoofer (Audi S5 B8, 8" sub) which didn't play highs at all. I found that out with the dd-1 when I played the 1kHz track and it did not read any signal but the 40hz worked perfectly. Went to the door speaker and voila I got sound to the sub.
