IKnowImLost224
When using an aero port is there any downfall or advantages to putting the port on the baffle instead of on the side?1 12" Eminent Audio 2k @ 1 ohm Sundown Saz-3500 Big 3 4" aero port in a 2.4 cu ft box
Triticum Agricolam
Having a port too far away from the sub can cause integration issues, but its very rarely a problem in a car audio environment. Are you planning on using more than one port? One 4" port is way too little port area and is definitely going to cause you some problems. IKnowImLost224
Thats all I had planned on using. I was talking to another guy who said that it was enough lol. I'm new to the box building thing :/
Triticum Agricolam
Sorry, but one 4" aero port isn't going to be anywhere near enough, the guy you were talking to doesn't know what he is talking about. Around tuning all the output comes out of the port, you are going to be putting some pretty serious power into that sub, you don't want to be choking off the output. I would probably try to fit 50 sq in of port area. Your port is going to be a significant portion of your box. Joe X
Ok so based on the parameters posted I am showing plots for a suggested 2 cubic feet @33HZ 40-45 square inches of port area: With 2 cubic feet net you get about a 3.5 dB peak in an average sized vehicle, this is medium efficiency meant to play higher bass as well: As you can see excursion increases risky fast below tuning so in this case the subsonic filter should be set 29-30HZ: Vent airspeed for a 45 square inches is shown but if you did 40 square inches it would be ok also, it makes easier to layout the box:
IKnowImLost224
When I tried making the port bigger in diameter (tried up to 8") it seemed like unless I was at like 3.5-4 cu ft net that I wasn't getting anywhere close to 30-40 HZ tuning. 8" put me at about 50 sq in
