What amp alt do I need?

Recommended Posts

Hey there. My stock alt is getting pretty old and I have a feeling its about to quit. The pulley bearing is already squeaky and its charging good for now, but I feel irs getting weaker. Its a stock Cheyenne c1500 4.3l alt so its the lowest output because of the lack of power options. All 5.7 vortec alts will fit my 4.3l as its the same front end. I'm running one alpine m100 1000w amp for my substage and it'll dim my lights on hard hits and it'll drop voltage pretty hard at idle. Question is, with this sub stage and no power options what amperage rating should I get when I replace this alt? Thanks, and sorry for the long read.

The highest you can afford, but acknowledge that a battery is just as important as the alt. You might want to look into an AD244 conversion, i imagine your C1500 has a CS130, and building a high output CS alt is a loosing battle. You'll throw a whole bunch of money at one just to end up with the same output as an OEM AD244.

Don't trust a shop but you personally just smoked two decks, makes sense.

you will only be running 1k? if so, just make sure your alt works and you have a solid battery up front. My guess is that you would be fine without needing to replace the alt with H/O version.

Well I have dual 850cca standard wet cells you can get from AutoZone. Not looking for crazy power just didn't know it itd change much if I went up a few sizes. Its like an 85amp alt right now. The fully loaded silverados I believe had a 120 or 140 amp alt, I get that from any parts store if u think that'll be fine. They're pretty cheap too. I'm trying to keep it under like $150
