So I just got a new amp for my 2004 Tahoe, this is my first install for this car and was going to mount the amp under the rear seats. My only problem is I really don't want to screw into the floorboard.

I've seen people say to glue a piece of wood under the carpet and then drill into that, but I can't get anything under the carpet without having to pull out the seats entirely.

What I was going to do was get a piece of 2x4 or something similar and put it on each end for the amp to be screwed into, and use velcro on the bottom side of the wood to keep it in place. I wanted to know if this would work fine or would there be too much vibration by only using velcro.

Here is a few pics of under my seat: http://imgur.com/a/2UTZY

The reason I was going to use 2x4s was so I could get over the bar in the middle of the photo and then be able to have ventilation under the amp.

So would this be fine to use velcro to secure the wood in place or will it be too loose?

Why not just pull the seat it seems daunting but its not that bad

Or you can get some brackets from your local hardware store and use the bolts securing the seats to mount the brackets to and mount the brackets to the piece of wood you're using to mount the amp....

most amps generate heat through the fins, which are usually on top and sides...So no need to space the bottom. If anything, you'd want to mount it as close to the floor as possible so it has space to "vent" out the top. I'd probably just take the seat out; would look cleaner that way.

Not gonna lie... I've used industrial strength Velcro for mounting amps many, many times. That shit is awesome. But all of my installs are permanently temporary. If I was doing a "daily" install... I would look to something more secure.

I'll parrot the advice above. Use the seat bolts.

Unsecured items in a car become projectiles when you crash. I would not trust Velcro.

I have used industrial strength velcro for years. I had a 12 inch Type R in a huge ported box and it was only secured by velcro. I would go off roading and the thing never moved. It is cheap also. You can get it in large strips or pre-cut pieces in the fabric section at Wal-Mart.
