whats the point?

Better cone control and dynamics at all volume levels.

If you're asking about peak level (full volume) only, yes there are diminishing returns. But more sound is still more sound.

My Zv4 10" sounds great on rms power from a SCV.

Made me have the same thoughts as OP.

Why push more watts?
Simple,

Why overclock a computer

why put a racing cam in stock V8

because we can. the question is can you handle the cost of pushing your gear harder than it was designed?

We all grave more power at a lower price.

If you can afford it, go for it.

But if you do, dont come crying when you break something.

I have 2 JL XD amps. 1 is 600 watts, other is 300. I couldn't really tell a difference but I also don't normally listen to my music at max. So I now just use the 300 watts, I'd rather not be heard more than need be but can still hear it quite a ways out if I crank it.

the thing is because youre really not pushing 600 watts to that sub.. even if you get a 1000 watt amp chances of the sub seeing 1000 is almost impossible

More headroom = less tendencies for clipping.

Your subs will thank you... ;)
