Amp overheats & goes into protect even when turned down

I have a Belva BB5000D powering an RE 18HC in my 99 blazer. Impedance to the amp is 1.4ohm, bass boost off, gain about half way, charging system while running is 14.04v. Thing is, it will overheat and go into protect even when the remote gain is all the way down, and the deck is at zero. With everything down it may take 10-15min, maybe 20, and if its turned up, maybe 5min. Power and ground are 2/0, with fresh lugs that were attached with a hydraulic crimper, and a deep cycle battery that's a few months old.

I'm at a loss on where to look to. I know that i'll need a new alt soon, should be charging higher. Amp is grounded to a bracket behind the rear seat, that I ground both the body, and bracket down to bare metal.

That to me sounds like there is a internal issue with the amp. If you have subs wired up, but no demand at all, like you said source is at 0. And it still over heats, then there has to be something wrong with that amp. Like to hear what others have to say, I feel like I am a noob.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

1: Gain half way does mean your not clipping
2: is big 3 done ?

3: If the body doesnt have a good ground than it's not a good grounding spot

4: Are you fused ?

This could possibly be it to. If the power going to the amp is shitty then that could cause unwanted stress without a demand. See I am noob, overlook things easily.

Try it with the RCAs unplugged from the amp. If it still overheats then it would probably be something wrong with the power supply inside the amp.

It also does it when the sub output on the deck is turned off. After power is running to it a while it will just shut off for a few minutes.

Big 3 not done, getting more wire to do it. At least 4ga, if not larger.

I'll grab a rubber grommet and ground to the frame this weekend.

Fused with a new 200a ANL

Tried without rca's, and without the sub hooked up, and it still does it. There's also feedback with the rca's plugged in, even with the deck at 0, none when unplugged. I think it's the Pico fuse in my deck, but I have another set of rca's to hook up.

Amp came out of a friends truck, never abused. It had feedback issues for him too, but never turned off. He also had a Pioneer deck with a blown pico fuse.

A little more info.

I just went out to monitor the amp with the truck running. remote gain all the way down, and the head unit set at 17 out of 60. Voltage is same at the amp as at the battery. As expected, after about 5-10 minutes the amp went into protect. I measured the impedance at the amp and while in protect and it showed 1.4ohms, but when not in protect it showed -160 to -180ohms.

After it went into protect I checked the power/ground wires and the mounting points and all were cool to the touch.

I thought about hooking up a couple 120mm fans to the bottom plate to push/pull air through the vent, but that's only a band-aid, and i'd much rather get to the root of the problem.

It is still doing it with the RCA's unplugged and the sub unhooked.

Definately ur amp. Those amps are known to crap out. When they first came out alot of people complained about them going up in smoke the first time they were used.
