walrus salesman
I'm new to this forum, and I was searching around on Google and using the search tool for this forum and I can't seem to find any information on this topic. I've been trying to figure this out for years.. why does bass seem to travel farther outside in certain cars? (front windows DOWN, not rattle, just bass) and before I get hate comments, NO My intent is not to drive thru residential neighborhoods at 11pm waking people up, I never play it near my house so thieves aren't an issue, and I'm not buying a system for other people to listen to, I'm buying it for me. The only question I have is why other cars let bass out better ? From my experience this is with suv's mainly, I've heard plenty of setups (non walled) in suv's and hatchbacks and it seems like the bass carries extremely well outside, I can hear 29 hertz, 32 hertz, and almost every note outside the car from far away and no rattle. But most sedans or trunk cars I can barely hear their bass from outside, only the higher notes. (They had trunk walls, so bass was firing directly into cabin) I have a couple of theories but I don't know which one is right. first theory: certain cars have smaller dashes, and giant windows which means bass gets outside easier second theory: certain cars let more sound escape thru the chassis or have holes leading to the outside??? third theory: suv's have larger cabins, which means the bass note has more room to develop, this somehow translates to less bass inside the car, and more of it escaping? Somebody who is a sound engineer please help me out, and again no hate please I am not going to go around neighborhoods waking people up and ruining the image of bassheads for others, I am simply curious about how this works

Ron36
Some cars are just made for sound and aren't designed like that , back when I was 16-17 my dodge shadow hatchback was the loudest car I've owned to date and had only 3 12's punch audiophile's on a punch 500m , my truck now has way more electrical and power and still I think that car was louder. 2022 Ford Maverick on 22’s Skar SK1500.1 on 4 Skar VD-8’s Mids Sundown Super tweeters, Skar TX 6.5 components on Skar SKM400.4 LC2 for audio control , XS Power D680 XS Series Extra Battery
walrus salesman
maybe some people are just louder than others I forgot to add this information to my original post, but I had a guy with Sony xplod 10's on 600 watts rms pull up next to me in a Ford Explorer at a gas station, I could hear him loud and clear outside the car and it was extremely boomy. Meanwhile I used to have a trunk wall with 2 dss ethos on a skar1500.1 at half ohm, fully sealed off, doing 146's average, and it didn't carry that far outside only on 43 hertz and up. notorious97200
Yeah hatchbacks and tiny cars are extremely loud inside, my friend did a 152 or I believe a 151 at 29 hertz on 3,000 watts rms with a single skar 12 in a trunk wall , giant aeroport tuned low, Scion FR-S. Outside you could barely hear anything even with both windows down 151 at 29 Hz on a 12" (Skar) sub, on 3k ? I can' believe it ! In a trunk ? That is incredible ! Did you want to write 131, or maybe 141 ? black BMW X1 2.0 l 192 hp OEM head unit, Amplifiers : Audison AP 8.9 amp with integrated DSP and Ampere Audio 1200. White Lightning
Why should it matter ?? Especially if you are comparing to meter numbers ... It only counts on what's inside the car to a meter. Kenwood / HELIX / Linear Power (For The Love Of Music) / Brutal Sounds / OverKill Electric Co Questions About Sound Quality ?? Try Here ...
