I'm about to install an air ride system on my car, and don't know what I need. I've seen some people say use Teflon tape, some say Loctite, and some say pipe dope. 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Cab. 3vil Posted December 2, 2016 Report Share Posted December 2, 2016 I've never cared for the pipe dope. Had results with Teflon tape when ALL the threads were nice and clean. I've read about the LocTite method, but I've always been worried that an emergency roadside repair would be that much more annoying with everything glued together. I'm sorry, but if you get pieces in the fitting and stuck in the valve instead of only on the threads, you're doing it wrong. We have this stuff at work called swak that we use for Swagelok fittings and it would work really well I believe, but I can't get a hold of that anywhere around here. the Loctite Teflon pipe dope looks pretty good too 2007 Ford F-150 Reg. Airborne Posted December 13, 2016 Report Share Posted December 13, 2016 You can use teflon tape. Just remember a couple things that make sure you don't get sticky valves. Teflon tape is a lubricant meant to help bring your fittings together and has an added benifit of sealing a poorly made joint. If you keep the tape a few threads up from the opening of the fitting and wrap the tape correctly you shouldn't have any worries. People use teflon on cheap pipe fittings they put on the hydraulics all the time and those pumps average 3k psi with some setups going way over that.
