friend has a p400.2 and a p2 12" dvc 4 ohm sub.
i told him to run a coil per channel @ 4 ohms, but he seems to think he's underpowering it too much, what yall think?

damn i'd like a 2502rms sub!

im assuming you mean 250rms, its a dual coil so each coil is 125rms.

you could run each coil to each channel, but you'd gotta turn the gain down

if the amp is 200rms a channel, sub is 125rms a coil. so you'd be infact overpowering it

turn the gain to 22.36v on each channel, that would give you the 125rms at 4 ohms on each channel that you would need for your sub.

heres the specs on the amp.
100W x 2 @ 4-Ohms RMS
200W x 2 @ 2-Ohms RMS
400W x 1 @ 4-Ohms bridged RMS
so its 200 peak per channel at 4 ohms, which is where he'd be at.
so what you think?

so he would be underpowering the sub by 25rms per coil.

100rms per channel at 4 ohms. Each coil is 4 ohms

1 coil on 1 channel 100rms, 1 coil on 2nd channel 100rms.

so for 100rms @ 4 ohms, turn the gain to 20v flat

or if you said, 200rms bridged @ 4 ohms, then turn the gain to 28.28v

im thinking that it should work pretty much perfectly. You're not expectiong to fosgate to do ONLY rated power are you? it will be fine hooking 1 VC per channel.

you have 2 options, 1 coil per channel or bridge it

no way to bridge it unless he bridges it to 8 ohms, cause the only other option would be 2 ohms bridged, and I dont think the amp would like that too much.
