I should probably introduce myself to everyone as I begin this build thread.

My name is Justin. Im 34 years old and have been involved with Audio/Video since before I could drive. I built dozens of car audio systems back in the day. Including some pretty awesome competition systems. I will post a build thread of one of those systems after I get time to scan in the old photos, no digital cameras back in the day. Throughout the years I have worked as a car audio installer, home audio installer, worked for a ultra highend loudspeaker manufacturer and curently own a custom home and commercial audio/video and integration bussiness called Sound Advice. Check out our website if you are into custom home theaters, we have some cool pics on there of some of our projects. Also watch for our website rebuild comming soon with lots of new project photos.

On with the build thread...

This is the first pickup I bought when I was 19. The first group of photos are of the original build. This build did pretty good at competitions back then. Low 150's at the glass, high 150's in the blowthrough. We had alot of fun with it.

The original system included:

Pioneer head unit- cant remember the model number

Pheonix Gold electronic crossover

Pheonix Gold bass knob

PPI A300 amp for highs

PPI A600 amp for mid bass

3ea PPI A1200 amps for the subs

3ea Cerwin Vega stroker 18's- I loved those subs!

4ea Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5" mid bass speakers

2pr Boston Acoustic Pro Series 4" component sets

5ea Optima yellow tops- no pictures of those

Stinger cables throughout

(Thats my oldest daughter in the first picture. She's 15 now! i feel really old.)

OK, so fast forward about 13 years. I have the truck basicly in storage. System still works, I just never drive the thing. On an impulse I drop the truck off for new paint. I tell them to do what ever they want with it and this is what I got back.

thats bad ass. we def need vids

Team S.M.D.

Maritime Car Audio- (2) 18" SSA ZCON D1

- American Bass 500.1

- 60 ft of 3/0

-480 Ah of battery

- (2) stock alternators (70 +90)

- Kenwood Excelon x-794, 4v preouts

car audio is just a LOT more complicated than "this amp does this power" or "this sub will be this loud". its like 2 + 2 = banana. (if that confuses you then you get the point) lol

The paint job is where the name "Scary truck" came from. My kids called it that and it's just stuck. After the paint job was finished I put new wheels on, 20" up front and 22" in the back. As soon as it stops snowing I will pull it out of the shop and get better pictures of the new wheels.

As for the new audio system build, here is what is planned.

Head unit- Pioneer touchscreen, not sure of model yet. I'm considering rebuilding the entire dash and flushing in the headunit and other video screens, we'll have to see.

Signal processing- not sure about that yet either. Probably Audio Control, we sell their home stuff so I can buy their car stuff as well.

Amps- 6ea Digital Designs S2a's,2 for the highs & 4 on the subs.

Speakers- Doors, kicks and dash. Either RE Audio, Digital Design or Focal.

Subs- 2ea RE Audio XXX18's. I actually bought these for a home theater project and never ended up using them so into the truck they go.

Electrical- Dual alternators. Just need to check pricing on a couple of brands and order them up.

Electrical- 6-10ea XS3100's. As many as I can fit. I'm running out of space so some will have to go under the truck.

IMG_3436.jpg

Notice the piece of unistrut bracing thats welded in. I had lots of panel flex with the original build so i had the body shop weld bracing around the blowthrough, inside the doors and below the back window.

IMG_3449.jpg

Starting the sub enclosure. Had to mock up the subs to check fit.
